Our Fans - Mind Blowing.

If you read Tony’s on comments this morning and still believe this I got nothing for you. He made it pretty clear it had nothing to do with TN or the Athletic department and it was all about his desire to take the next step. Some of our fans just love to be miserable and always have to find someone to blame.
This. All this DW hate is wild man.

Wrong. He would not elaborate by saying he always wanted to go to the majors or make more money (he took a pay cut). He said the reasons were personal. If you can't put all this together and read into that you are a Danny White follower (plus a lot of baseball connections have said he did not want to go).

This stuff is truly getting wild. Now the poor guy went kicking and screaming to coach in the world's highest level of professional baseball in one of the most historic managerial promotions in the sport's history. TV is probably crying right now that we forced him out and made him take this monumental dream job. How dare DW put this calamity on him! OHHHHH the HUMANITY! 100's of professional A, AA, & AAA coaches who dodged this awful bullet (that they have hoped for and dreamt about for decades) are probably offering their most sincere condolences and sympathy to him during this troublesome time. Major promotions to the absolute highest level of your field are just the worst! I just can't believe DW forced him to coach the best players in the world against his will and walk on the same field as Shohei Ohtani 13 times a year.

DW you suck! Why couldn't you make UT more competitive with the National League West! I don't understand how you could let him go! Waghhhhh!

I have told y’all for six years that it is hard becoming a Tennessee fan because of the Tennessee fans. I love the ones that are on here all year long but the ones that show up on bad ball games and especially the last two weeks makes it very hard to become a diehard fan when you didn’t grow up one.
Those are the trolls from the football forum. As someone who has lived all over the country including other college towns, from experience I can tell you that all fanbases have them. Volnation just so happens to be the largest and loudest.

This would be like the Head FB Coach at McCallie HS (Chattanooga) getting an offer to be the Tennessee Head Football Coach during an opening and then all of the McCallie fans blaming the McCallie AD for not being able to keep him and saying "Joel Bradford really liked it at McCallie, I just don't understand why he left." We would be thinking...really, you don't understand why he left?

It's craziness!

No college coach is passing up a managerial position in the MLB especially with a team like the Giants. Who the college AD is at the time is irrelevant. Yes he had to "think" about it. That's what a coach in a good situation should be doing, talking with his family....weighing out pros and cons, because like with Saban and Pitino it doesn't always work out in the pros. They were also likely working out the details of his Giants contract during that time. In the end it was too good to pass up. End of story. How this could be in any way, shape, or form DW's fault is beyond me.
the only issue I have with this comparison is the difference in pay. HS to College - Millions more. Tony took a pay cut to go to MLB (context of Taxes and COLA). More apt comparison would be going from a D2/D3/NAIA to D1. (which would probably still be Millions but not nearly the differential)

I swear we have the most passionate fans in college sports but half of us are retarded (can I say that?).

It's reasonable to expect our head coaching compensation / packages to be competitive with the SEC. One may even stretch it to, with our resources, we should be getting and keeping the best coaches in college sports. But to EXPECT us to compete with the Yankees, MLB baseball (the GIANTS)...is mental. To say "if we wanted to keep him he'd still be here." when this guy had to him what may be an opportunity of a lifetime...is wildly crazy.

Then to want the AD DW fired...is even more wild. Is there another athletic department in the country who has more athletic programs top 25 ranked year in and year out? If that isn't a taking things for granted and a "be careful what you wish for" situation in the making I don't know what is. Every sport that matters (and some that don't) is, has been recently, is near, or will be top 10 ranked and y'all want the AD fired???? Have y'all lost your minds???
"New Day Vol" Huh? Got it..

DW made Tony the highest paid college baseball coach and put tens of millions into the stadium as requested by Tony. You’re a freaking retard. Lastly, if Tony wanted to be here he would.
"How dare you question Coach Fulmer's hire! Jeremy Pruitt is the next Nick Saban! Ya'll are a bunch of freakin' retards for criticizing it!"

You...no doubt back in 2017 while you were shining UTAD's shoes back then.

Are you absolutely certain that salary increase was done entirely by the grace and initiative of Danny White?

And who was it who actually pushed through the stadium improvements?

Look higher, genius.

UTAD is not above question. The athletic director is not beyond questioning in this situation, as he aptly demonstrated in that fumbling abortion of a press conference.

After the last 20 plus years, we should've figured that out by now.

Your post is pure conjecture. How do you know he didn’t push for the salary increase and stadium expansion? You don’t but your emotions have you looking for a fall guy. It’s your opinion that he fumbled the press conference. What was he suppose to say? “Hey guys I got out my knee pads but apparently I wasn’t good enough.” Some of you have a really high opinion of yourself and think you know what’s best from the sidelines.

What's mind blowing is those that don't listen to baseball players at and connected with the university. Tony didn't want to go. It's not the opportunity of a lifetime if you don't want a job elsewhere and want to stay where you are at. Our sorry athletic director talked with him ONCE in two weeks (have one report that was through another person) which made Tony's mind up that he was being 'helped' out the door by DW. Tony was the face of UT. No other coach here can hold his jock strap with what he has done. DW has alienated a portion of the fan base. If it takes losing in all the sports to get Danny White fired then a lot of us are for it. Karma for Danny White......it can't be soon enough.
Really?! What kind of miserable person are you? It’s people like you that probably want the economy to tank, families to starve and the country to suffer just so the president you didn’t vote for will fail.

Did you listen to the press conference?

Assigning the Subaltern Baseball Intern to the Junior Assistant Athletic Director to the Adjutant Assistant Athletic Director to the Athletic Director for Baseball Operations to talk to Vitello doesn't work when the Giants come calling.

I will point again to Indiana. Football is not the primary sport in Bloomington. But Cignetti is their best coach and is building something special. Knowing Penn State and UCLA were open and understanding Florida, LSU and Auburn are possible openings as well, that guy didn't sit up in palatial office and wait. He went directly to his strongest asset and personally communicated to that individual his desire to retain his services.

That is a part of the job.

We're sinking well over $100 million into this new stadium. If you face the possibility of losing the man who made that investment feasible, then why would you not make an absolute effort to keep him when he delays on what is admittedly a special opportunity in his game?
Different circumstances. Cignetti is an old man in a different stage of life.

Also, going from Indiana to one of those schools, no matter how much better the football tradition, is not the same. Now, if the Steelers would’ve been calling for Cignetti, then I might agree with you.

I used to defend our fanbase but I have come to a point where I now realize why the rest of the country views us the way that they do. We have a large portion of idiots that ruin it for the rest of us. God forbid a grown man in his late 40s accomplish everything he wanted at the college level in a very short amount of time and then a dream opportunity comes available that he never thought possible. He was even humble whenever he got hired on at Tennessee. Heck he was even humble whenever he was working his way up through the assistant roles. In his mind he doesn’t realize how great he is but everyone else notices it from a mile away. He’s just a good dude that works his tail off and ingratiates himself wherever he is at. I truly believe he thought he was going to coach at Tennessee for the rest of his career but who in their right mind would ever think the MLB would offer a college coach their managerial role whenever it’s never happened in the history of the sport? We all knew he was good enough to get an opportunity like this but I don’t think most people thought a MLB franchise as prestigious as the Giants would go the college route. I would have expected it from the Marlins, not a franchise that has won the 5th most World Series. Stop blaming people and realize that sometimes a once in a lifetime opportunity literally only happens once in a lifetime. He doesn’t have a wife, he doesn’t have kids. This was an easy decision for anyone else, but for Tony it was the most difficult decision of his life. That’s how loyal he is. You can play the blame game all you want, but just know you are the idiot portion of our fanbase that everyone despises.

In 5 years when Danny has moved on to his next job and the people you all trust (99.1 apparently) speak out about the stuff they’re unwilling to now, a lot of you all are going to look really silly.

It’s the same song and dance that we went through with Butch, Dooley, Pruitt, Currie, etc. Carry water until the bitter end then turn on them once they’re gone and the Brian Rices and Josh Wards are given the green light to speak freely.

My father was one the best managers in the car sales business not only in Knoxville but also statewide.

When the owner thought he was going somewhere else, they didn't send out a flunky to talk to him.

Let's say for a moment Heupel finds the formula and has a period leading to SEC championships and contention for national titles. Perhaps he wins one.

Oklahoma comes calling. And the call comes personally from their athletic director and top boosters. Even Coach Stoops makes a move to mend fences.

I believe our athletic director should do more than "aw shucks" and walk away with little or no communication at that point.

If Heupel evolves into elite status, then I expect our athletic director to be elite at that time and do everything that can be done to keep him in Knoxville.
He did, he approved 105M facility renovations. Not sure that’s aw shucks.

Ah yes. Because Tony was totally going to come out and say “I hate Danny White and he lied to me so I left”. Lol.

Tony could’ve left because it was something he wanted to do and it didn’t hurt that he didn’t get along with his boss.

Tony was always going to take the high road.

Tony got more support from the AD and the University than any baseball coach in the history of Tennessee baseball and he was able to use that support to win a NCAA Championship. He is a terrific coach and everyone will miss him. Like any aggressive coach, player, business, etc, he wanted to expand his horizons and chose to do that when he got the opportunity to do that. It is done and it is time to move on and hire the best coacharge available. Live for the future, not the past. The future can be changed; the past can not.

Man Y’all really weird. Why do we have to be homogeneous in our opinions as a fan base?? So what people don’t like Danny White. That’s as much Danny Whites fault as it is rumors or anything else. Go support White if that’s your guy. It’s better for me if White succeeds cause it means Tennessee succeeds. Y’all acting like White hung the moon doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m still gonna be vocal about not liking the guy. Cause that’s my opinion. Don’t let it bother you. Different strokes for different folks big player

You’re weird for not liking an AD that’s trying to do everything he can to have a competitive athletic program in every sport. He is the best AD we’ve had in a long time. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is ever satisfactory enough for this fanbase. A bunch of freaking idiots.

Well according to TV's own words the SF job was a "dream job" and something he "wanted to try before his coaching career was over". So that ruins the narrative by a few that he "didn't want to leave Tennessee", was "forced out", and "TV would be here if DW wanted him here". So the crazies were wrong again.

I can assure you as someone who has been to every GA vs UT football game in Athens and in Knoxville for the past 25 years, there are plenty of drunk, obnoxious GA fans. Unfortunately every fan base has their fair share of jerks, and they tend to be the loudest.

The obnoxious ones are a pain. But find me a fan base that doesn’t have them. Kentucky has them in spades. Alabama has them in spades. LSU has them in spades. Georgia…Florida….Arkansas…

I mean, which program is it “easy” to be a fan of by those standards?
