Whatever. The games take less time than college and it's anything but boring. Your opinion sounds like it's from someone who doesn't watch itI used to watch more. They try to "shorten" games by running more clock. Then they lengthen the game by adding more commercials. Frankly, it's becoming more boring.
I just watched Detroit play Atlanta on Sunday or Monday night. I started watching the NFL in 6th grade. Alan Page of Minnesota was my favorite player. The ONLY defensive player ever to win league MVP. I've seen a ton. My opinion is from someone that has been watching a long, looooong time.Whatever. If I’m understanding correctly, the 35 for a touchback is incentive for the kicker to keep the ball in play. I thought the new rules were goofy at first, but it has made kickoffs both safer and more interesting. It’s grown on me.While the new NFL kickoffs look goofy, they are a whole lot more fun than watching teams kick it through the endzone every single time. I don't think touch backs should come out to the 35 like the NFL however. I'm for whatever incentivizes more kick returns.
It negates kicking strategy at times (i.e. squib kicking) just don’t like saying you have to place the ball in this specific perimeter. Why do you not like the NFL kickoff rules? It encourages teams to actually make returns and not just have a touchback almost every time. It has worked too.
Since a touchback spots the ball at the 35 yard line this season, return rates in the NFL compared to last year have doubled, and tripled since 2023. I am so tired of seeing touchbacks or fair catches on almost every kickoff in college football. It is so boring. I’d welcome a change that encourages more returns.
That is a good point, and I don’t know of a solution for it. I guess that since surprise onside kicks and squib kicks are so rare, I’m happy to trade them for a return 75% of the time rather than a touchback for 75% of the time.It negates kicking strategy at times (i.e. squib kicking) just don’t like saying you have to place the ball in this specific perimeter.
