I’ll go…

Starters:
Gillespie
Abram
Ament
Estrella
Okpara

Top 3 minutes off the bench:
Burg
Carey
Phillips
I think most would agree that this is pretty close to the pecking order for the top 8, but I am curious as to thoughts about the rest of the squad. Who else is going to be counted on this year?

Well history suggests 7-8 is usually the counted on number, but if you want to go past those 8.

Evans, Henderson and Boswell will be in competition for that 9th spot imo, I expect 1 of them to assert themselves at some point and take over that role. Brown will get some spot minutes as a front court player, but I would guess 10th most MPG on the team, behind whoever steps forward in that 9th role out of the guards. I expect Massamba to either redshirt or be 13th of the group.

I'm not disagreeing with you on those three, but isn't Henderson a 1 guard and the others a 2? I pictured Henderson as a backup to Gillespie, and Evans and Boswell fighting for minues at the 2. Are you saying the two positions are interchangeable with these guys?

Now, as for Massamba, I knew that I wasn't seeing much information about him, but what is his situation? In his videos, he looked sensational. Was it just inferior competition? How do you see his future here?

Henderson could play the 1 and thus slide Gillespie off ball for spurts as he’s wired as a scorer, or Henderson could play the 2 as he is also a very good shooter, both are options…if Barnes feels Henderson is ahead of the others he’ll get him on the court and figure out in which role later.

As for Massamba, he was playing against similar aged kids and is a great athlete, those 17-18 year olds overseas aren’t the same as elite 17-18 year olds here in the states. He’s got the adjustment to the American game, and again, he’s just 18…most of those kids need some time.

The thing I'll be watching is minute-split between Boswell and Henderson.
Seems like Hendernson has more juice right now based on reports. I think Boswell seems like a great team guy but very offensively limited and is not Mashack/ZZ on defense to make up the difference.

I agree that my perception is that Henderson has a little more buzz, but we all know how Barnes seems to appeal to experience, so that's why I'm curious to see how it plays out.

Is Boswell going to play PG with Henderson available this year? His handle looked a little shaky last year.
I'm hoping not. I've been off the Boswell bandwagon from jump street. Waiting to be proven wrong on him, but he's yet to look like a guy you can count on for meaningful minutes.

No, they’ve given up on that experiment thankfully…I think they’re trying to mold him into the Mashack role, a defensive stopper, ideally with some more offense but obviously we’ve not seen that aspect yet, or the Mashack level defense. He has a good build and is very strong like Shack, so it could work, be interesting to watch.

I have always believed he has more offense than most people believe, but I base that on very little evidence. This is his year to prove folks wrong, or he might need to step down a level or two.

It won't matter and Barnes will probably frustrate us like he did vs Indiana and not play optimal lineups at times. Hopefully everyone can keep in mind that these are about testing things and making the team better. (I know most of us here will)
