Finally someone that gets it. Regardless of it Elander is ready, the players don't get to drive the bus on the fire. Elander needs to prove to the administration that he is ready to take over the role.Given the circumstances, I think it’s gotta be Elander, but to be honest, there are some other good names on the list. If Elander wasn’t already here, we would all probably be ranking Wes Johnson, Mark Wasikowski and Rob Vaughn above Elander… and maybe others as well.
Because he is a professional and damn good at his job as our current state of athletics shows. So you conduct a search to make sure you are hiring the right person. Just because players want a guy, doesn't mean he is the guy. So I'm not going to bash a dude for doing what he is hired to do.i just keep going back and asking myself "myself, when everyone knows where this is going to end, why would danny white make people think he is even more of a goofball than people are already staring to think he is by conducting some kind of national search when the person you are going to hire if you want to have more than 500 people in the stand this season is right down the hall?" if he mucks this up and hire some guy Vol Nation has never heard of and they are not in omaha every year or two, it may be the first time that how an SEC AD handles the baseball coaching situation could play a large part in costing him his job
Promoting within is not always the #1 option.. also saying if DW is going with the unknown and cheaper route the Murray State Head Coach took a team of unrated players to CWS last season.. wonder what he could do with resources?I don’t think Elander is a slam dunk. He’s certainly a no risk / popular hire for DW. People forget that Vaughn was CTV’s first choice for his #2 when he took the job back in 2017. Vaughn took the head job at Maryland or would have likely been on staff. Elander is no doubt popular with the players and has done a tremendous job as the #2. Now he has a chance to prove he’s the best choice to lead a top 5 program via the selection process.
Exactly. Did the same with Heupel. National search to hire the guy you had at your last school.Doing a national search gives more legitimacy to Elander when he is ultimately hired. If you say we searched nationwide and interviewed multiple high quality candidates and we still thought Elander was the best candidate then you are showing recruits and portal players there’s not much dropoff.
i can tell by your reply that you must be a new Vol Fan, so welcome!!! I have been around long enough to remember when Lane Kiffin left, in a similar time frame as far as bad timing for the program and while most intelligent people i heard suggested that just promote an interim coach and get through the year and see where things are was the prudent move, the powers that be said nope, gotta go hire a coach real quick to keep things together. I guess we see looking back how that went. But as i say, I am sure that was before your time, so there is your history lesson for the day. Oh, and the hire they 'had to make' was Derik Dooley. Way to go guys!! Put Elander in, give him a shot and if it falls off a cliff, make a change next year when you can conduct a real search and have a shot at real candidates. hiring someone for the sake of hiring someone this time of year out of a limited candidate pool is administrative stupidityBecause he is a professional and damn good at his job as our current state of athletics shows. Nice job working "Home Run" into a baseball thread! Well done. You do a national search for one reason: You never know who is out there that would be a HR hire, that we all think is impossible to get, but his agent is secretly contacting UT with back channels to let them know he is in play. If that does not pan out, then you can fall back to Elander. Rob Vaughn is who I am hoping is that guy.
Do Vaughn and Elander have a relationship?? Maybe if it is Vaughn and Elander stays we strike gold again.I don’t think Elander is a slam dunk. He’s certainly a no risk / popular hire for DW.
