Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

This whole NBA gambling mess is just one more reason I quit watching or caring about this crap league many years ago.
The NBA has been garbage for years. It's downfall started with the Jordan rules and marketing to the ghetto culture. I remember when it was FANTASTIC. Magic Johnson cut the lights out when he left, the party was over.

Don’t understand why some fans are mad (not necessarily on here) about there being a national search being done for TV’s replacement.

Elander still being considered, and my favorite to land the job, but it’d be dumb not to see who out there is also interested in what is now considered a top tier college baseball job.

Smart people don’t rush decisions without considering all options when time allows.

Going to another page here of sloppy notes, just to throw out decision stuff. I can't be more sincere in saying my decision, if it mattered to people — which blows my mind as a scrub walk-on at the University of Missouri — I appreciate that. If you're wondering what this or that, what it has to do with the team or anything — there was a lot of factors. Like that is a brand new stadium I'm going to miss out on. Anything to do with San Francisco, anything to do with Tennessee, at the end of the day, it was not relevant to the decision. It was selfish. It was personal reasons. Again, I've always tried to be a good teammate, but I feel like I made a selfish decision that was one I needed to make. It's the right decision and I just hope it doesn't give me Lane Kiffin status around here, because I feel like I'm a VFL. I think if someone truly invests in being a VFL for any amount of time, they're just that — a Vol For Life. That's what I am in my mind.

Tony Vitello. Go 247 has the full statement... interesting read very heartbroken CTV was and very complimentary towards Tennessee and it's fans...class act..

Provided Danny is giving Josh a legitimate shot, I agree. Somewhat reluctantly, but I agree.

Tony Vitello released a statement.. in the statement he said quote " my decision was a selfish one" ..

Also in the statement:

The other thing here — why would you want to be a VFL and why it's easy to have success? The athletic department. It truly is a sorority and fraternity amongst us as coaches. Danny White's leadership, not just on the financial end with the buildings and the other things that have gone on here — just (the) direction of hiring the right people at all these specific sports sites on our campus

There's a lot of people on here who have invested far less than TV questioning his VFL status. I don't care what happens from here on out Tony Vitello gave his all for Tennessee and I will hold him in the highest esteem along with all the other Tennessee greats. He brought swagger back and we were damn lucky to have him.

It is crazy that the people who are the loudest and most offended didn't even know Tennessee had a baseball team 2 years ago. It is a fact of life that the bandwagons scream the loudest.

October 24, 1970

Vols - 38
Florida - 7

Bobby Scott passed for a school record of 385 yards and two touchdowns to lead Tennessee to a 38‐7 victory over Florida.

Doug Dickey, who coached Tennessee to its 14‐13 loss to the Gators last year in the Gator Bowl, then defected to coach the same Florida team, was greeted by boos and cat calls. His former team built a 24‐7 half‐time advantage and coasted to the victory.

Scott threw touchdown passes of 42 and 5 yards to an end, Joe Thompson In the first half, and Tennessee defenders intercepted four of the 52 passes thrown by the Florida quarterback, John Reaves. Two of the interceptions were re turned for touchdowns.

Conrad Graham raced 36 yards with one interception for a score and a linebacker, Jackie Walker, picked off another pass, returning it 19 yards for a touchdown. Curt Watson bulled 3 yards for another score and George Hunt booted a 22‐ yard field goal to wind up the scoring for the 12th‐ranked Volunteers.

..... Whether there was or wasn't any friction between Vitello and Danny White, Vitello took the high road and never once badmouthed AD White nothing but complimentary ...

My opinion? If you bring the University of Tennessee and its fanbase a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP...then you are a VFL regardless.

I hope that our first coin we spend in regards to the defense is getting a new defensive coordinator. There’s absolutely zero excuse for not changing what in the world you’re doing that keeps causing you to fail. This is the definition of insanity. Newsflash… Dropping your DBs 15 yards deep ain’t working.
Brand new contract, solid incoming class.

One year off the playoffs. Chance at the playoffs, despite myriad injuries. AD having to hire a baseball coach, in Oct. Brand new Adidas deal. Top ten recruiting class.

I cant see any household changes.

I personally think it's too early on LB coach. Unfortunately, if there were a change to be made. That's the most logical escape goat. I know which way I'd go. Your only consistentency (recruiting and results on field) have been DL and Edge.

If i'm JH and DW, I think when you re-signed TB you didnt want to have to go through a coordinator search, at that time. Was my impression.

Bank's value has decreased markedly since last year to now. And frankly, I think he's a very very mid recruiter.

Results wise, Brooks Austin and other's whom I trust. Continue saying Banks makes right calls. Difference is Huep calls plays according to talent he has, so there's modifications. Banks doesnt make right play calls for his personnel.

This could be an elite team, with just a marginal increase in defensive efficiency.

You know giving up 30 to Turds on the road. in their house isnt the end of the World. Also, dont have an issue with Ark, GA, or even Syracuse. Thing is, we haven't played a putrid offense yet.

We are what we are. Complaining about the talent or lack thereof on back end is pointless. He wont play any younger players, his obstinance may get him replaced next year.

One thing is for certain if this were my team Ive seen enough.

Wow. I could easily see him coaching at Andy, or even in some Administrative faculty here at TN. Throughout his tenure he has struck me as genuine. Confident, borderline cocky. But able to back it up. Think he is an extremely detailed guy, loves what he does.

His comments only reinforce my opinion that he struggled with the decision. Loves his team here. We'll see how time changes his opinions.

Could see him run for Governor.
