My question I guess is why would anyone believe they truly mean it when a coach says things like "Either you are a Vol or you aren't" implying that they will love and cherish the school to the same level the fans do? Basically none of them mean or believe it, that is just something you say in the profession to help get recruits and build culture within the program and even the fanbase. That is the job. They usually aren't fans of the teams and didn't grow up loving the team they currently coach like the fans did. Vitello had zero connection to the school (or even the state afaik) before becoming coach here. If you genuinely think they mean it when they say it and will never leave for any reason ever, you are going to be disappointed basically every single time.

Tigers may trade Skubal this off season due to not be able to sign him to the long term contract... Does your Braves take a swing if Skubal is on the block? Probably takes 3 top 100 prospects to get him.

we lost super seniors and our best players to the draft guys. in his defense we only had 6 years to recruit other guys to replace them.

no other teams has to deal with that!

also, as DC, it isnt up to him to recruit safeties. That's on the safeties coach!

So, you see there is a ballad excuse for us executing the 'lay prostrate' defense.

Seriously, i'm glad there is only one porthole.

Have a feeling we are going to see lots of movement to overhaul this defense. I bet lots will leave, and some not voluntarily. And we'll be spending some coin.

If this staff thinks it can find a safety in bargain bin aisle, it will find itself right back in same spot. Have to go find a starter.

Hang in there….I have a felling everything is going to be fine.

My hope is DW uses Duke basketball as a blueprint on how to keep the good times rolling. Ironic that they are coming to town this week….wasn‘t his dad an AD there?

Certainly possible but this was at least started from a list Ryan Schumpert put out as a hot board. He could be way off but in our defense we didn’t just start throwing out random names from nothing.

The truth is...it is hard to be a Vol and has been for a long time. I just wish all the breaks would go our way for a while and crazy 💩 would stop happening for a while.

I think you are anguishing over things that are normal. Success leads to bigger opportunities. Tennessee hired Johnny Majors because he won a Natty at Pitt and I'm sure the Pitt people felt betrayed, he is their greatest coach of all time. TV was the king CBB and a Tennessee hero and it is normal for that to gain the attention of people. He has been offered an awesome opportunity and it is normal that he took it.
As far as Fulmer is concerned, he had some misses in recruiting and some bad hires but I believe he would have righted the ship. In any case he should have been given the opportunity and was treated disrespectfully by a punk AD who ditched him for a punk coach. Hamilton hired Kiffin and Pearl, two freaking punks that were not Tennessee.
And for whatever time we had him tony Vitello was Tennessee and I am sure there will be a part of him that will always be Tennessee.
We are Tennessee.
WGWTFA.

UT baseball was not Sh!t all the years before TV we had some good teams and great players and coaches, the Delmonico years were great and he is a Tennessee legend. The difference is that not many people paid attention to CBB like they do now. TV had the great fortune of coaching good teams when the general public awakened to CBB and became less enthralled with the MLB. ESPN is as responsible as anyone for the popularity of CBB and TV, people can watch CBB on TV now without going to the actual games and more than friends, family, and fanatics are watching.

i figured I would add some discussion about the difference a good AD makes: This is winning % the four years before DW at Tennessee and the four years with DW. It does not include the covid season. I added UCF last four years with DW and the four years since.

Tennessee. UCF
Football
DW 71%. preDW 51%. DW 78% after DW 54%

baseball
DW 77%. pre 55%. DW 58%. after 55%

softball
DW 76%. pre 75%. DW 61%. after 67%

basketball
DW 76%. pre 67%. DW 63%. after 55%

women’s basketball
DW68%. pre 66%. DW 69%. after 54%

women’s soccer
DW 68%. pre 71%. DW 64%. after 56%

There is some nuance: Tony V was trending up during the covid year. The two teams that had lowered % under white: The softball coach at UCF was hired by DW in the middle of the four yrs. She was an upgrade over the previous coach. The soccer coach at UT won 20 games in 2021 and then left.

Some accomplishments during DW tenure: Baseball national championship. Playoffs and NY6 bowl in football, number one ranking in soccer, top 2 in women’s softball, top two finishes in swimming in at least 20 years, undefeated football season at UCF.

I hope that our first coin we spend in regards to the defense is getting a new defensive coordinator. There’s absolutely zero excuse for not changing what in the world you’re doing that keeps causing you to fail. This is the definition of insanity. Newsflash… Dropping your DBs 15 yards deep ain’t working.
