Serious question about DW

I don't really know if he is the best we have had but..... where we were vs where we are now and the health of all sports is a far cry from when he took over. Results say he is doing his job. Since this is in the Baseball forum, TV is a phenomenal coach but I do not buy the whole smear DW campaign. Replacing TV will be extremely hard, however he made the decision to leave. People talk about WBB getting more. The fact is BB as a whole will always get more. Some schools may do allotment different etc, but how many of them are actually successful in every major sport ? TV made 3m/year got the stadium upgrades we needed plus his staff was well compensated. Look at recruiting, the funding was there. TV made a decision. I support him and wish him well. It sucks but I can't be mad at someone chasing their dream.
Agree, but some seem to think that DW should have bolted TV's feet to the floor to stop him from chasing his dream. Quite obvious it wasn't about the money but about TV following his dream. DW is the scapegoat because TV left and DW didn't try hard enough. So now it is the Chicken little story the sky is falling mentality.

Just doing what you are supposed to do - doesn't make you the best. You have to go over and beyond.
Cool I guess. Willing to throw watch parties, block parties, listened to fans with bringing the VOLS letters back. Willing to clap back at media on things. Plowman does this also. They didn't lay down and take NCAA sh1t. I mean he has done some pretty cool things. Did he 100% handle this situation right? Probably not, at the end of the day he is the coaches boss, maybe he felt like it was time to left Vitello walk because every year he asks for more and is never happy ? I have no idea. TV is. A great Coach but maybe he is just as hard to work with as you all saying DW is ? Oh and the most important factor in all of this is the AD as a whole is successful and has proper funding and our success shows across the board. All of our teams are competitive and most major sports are nationally ranked.

You are correct, DW didn't try hard enough. I know what a booster to program said.

No one has really answered what makes him the best AD ever. Sorry but you all haven't.
Just a reminder....If you really, honestly want the rock bottom truth to a question...NEVER ASK IT ON VOLNATION. You'll be even more confounded about the correct answer cause most of what we have are uninformed, non-insider opinions (mine for sure these days) and rarely is the true answer found there in! As stated...JMO 🤷‍♂️

So we have gone from I know facts, to opinion/speculation, to hearsay from a booster as fact. Great Story. I not defending DW just get the BS right.

Again, TV 's choice and he chose to go follow a dream? Pretty good story for TV and sucks for us.
Some find it hard to believe TV was following his dream. Kiffin remind you of anything. College Coach to MLB Manager, more believable than DW running him off. For about the same pay.

I figured TV would be here forever, but I don't blame him for leaving to be MLB Manager. He knows the game, has the right demeanor to Manage at any level.
In some cases, you could offer $$$$ and funding well above average and they will say no to follow their dream.

He is a players coach. He will be fun to follow the next few seasons in the Bigs.

If he turned down this job he would never get another offer to the big league again. (speculation)

It's not that hard to understand. TV made more than many MLB managers. DW approved a massive upgrade to LN stadium, one that won't be covered by 2 decades of baseball ticket sales. California has a much higher cost of living and state income tax.

Tony left because he is chasing his dreams. If Peyton had gone pro before his senior season, it would have been the same deal. Wouldn't diminish either's legacy as a Vol. We should be thankful for Tony's time here and what he accomplished.

Put down the social media and use a little common sense.

Danny has bungled the stadium renovation. What was a one year project is now three. Look at what the original estimates were. He’s gotten played and delayed. Just like he manages getting in and out of Neyland. Basically, treat the peasants like cattle so the premium donors can get to their spot. Have yall seen the new premium area on the west side? It’s obscene, but don’t worry, you’ll never see it, unless you pony up $250k or stroke Danny’s sack. That’s why these new areas have empty seats. The focus isn’t on the game, but a place for millionaires and billionaires To rub elbows in the climate controlled country club. There’s a reason you don’t see these pictures in any of UTs promo material. Danny doesn’t want you. Look at this nonsense. And this is why people can’t get to their seats anymore.

Danny’s interest in expanding the stadium is not more of this crap, and not watching baseball.

Going to go with Coach Woodruff. Entered a difficult situation with an athletics plant in real need of upgrades across the board and a football program stuck in a rut. Did a good job retaining his best coaches, including a strong but eventually futile effort to keep Doug Dickey from returning to his alma mater, a direct approach to personnel communication the present AD would do well to emulate. The last athletic director to truly value the fanbase rather than merely view them as plusses or minuses on a balance sheet.

He left things for Coach Dickey in much better shape than where he found them in 1963. Not perfect as the selection of Coach Battle demonstrates. But far better than the credit he's been given over the years.

In his 8 years on the Hill, did you ever hear a hint of MLB ambitions from Tony?

Starters getting out of the Nike contact and going with Adidas for 4 times the amount.

Revitalization of a football program that was on life support. Major boost for all athletics.

Resigned TV when a baseball blue blood came calling in 2021.

Baseball block parties for those who couldn’t get into the stadium.

Athletic renovations are on par or better than the rest of the country.

Under his watch
Football playoff
Baseball championship
Softball back to back SEC, two WCWS
Basketball- Conference champ, SECT champ
Women’s Soccer #1 in the nation

Maybe you’re looking to be offended or you haven’t been paying attention.
