Tennessee Lady Vol News

Just speaking from practice and other reports that she has hit a higher gear as a player. Has shown vast improvement over the summer. She was really coming on late last season so I expect her to be in there a lot and in a starting role occasionally.
Gotcha! I think we're so excited about the season that we wanna speculate everything about this year's team! Let's hope they exceed expectations! GBO 🍊

Even our own coach mentioned the goal for her (Latham) is a double double. She had a very nice looking three point shot last year so assuming growth there. Also, I thought she really shined on defense towards the end of the year. I look for her to have a great year for us that will spring board her into a huge role in 26/27.

I can’t completely agree with you on this one. Yes, she had her struggles last season—especially with fouling—but Latham brings valuable college-level experience. By the end of her freshman year, she earned All-ACC Freshman honors, marking her as one of the top 25 players in the 2023 class. While the incoming freshmen are talented, they haven’t yet faced the grind of high-level college basketball, and at some point, it’s inevitable they’ll hit that “freshman wall.”
For Latham, adapting to a new system, conference, school, and playing style may have contributed to her dip in production. Still, she essentially matched her freshman-year numbers while playing fewer minutes and taking on a smaller role. That consistency speaks volumes. I believe she’ll be a key piece—an X-factor—for this season. As @coachjumper mentioned, she’s been putting in the work all summer, and we’re all hoping it shows once the games begin. If anything, her playing time should increase, and she’ll likely be among the top seven in the rotation.
Are you responding to me? It was the journalist who the posted story above who said Latham would be a great role player. I was saying her role (like many others on the team) is TBD.

madtown knows she is one i feel will be dramatically better... that's the only reason he is saying that
I did? The only thing i recall from you was a predication about signing a "fab four."

Once again, you want to make a post about the LVs all about you. It is tiresome though predictable.

Back to the team, the aim of having a deeper roster in the CKC system is to be more aggressive in her rotation with less drop off between different line-up combos. So, more players in the same amount of available game minutes means some per player reductions in playing time (that is the reality of math).

As we saw last season, CKC does narrow down the roster rotation a bit as the season goes on. She brought in Wolfenberger, Barker and Hurst who can also play in Latham's spot. The reality of line-up building is that some will make a stronger claim to that spot than others. As I said, it remains TBD who of that set rises to the fore as the season progresses.

See where Columbus State is playing Auburn Montgomery on October 25th a few days before they plays us. Live Stream not sure if it is free or not.

Starts at 1 pm est.

Guess we'll have a game thread up soon if someone is doing that this year. Will be great to look at them and see what type of team they are. Right now I am thinking a Lady Vol 60 point win game might change my mind to closer or by more.

From the article, and @Coach Jumper:

"Alyssa Latham could be a fantastic role player and option to stretch the floor." [emphasis added] 👍
Coach Jumper had stated several times that Alyssa has been working on her 3-point shooting in the off season.

This sports writing observer to a recent open practice seemed to be confirming that by noting this year she could be an "option to stretch the floor."

Guess I'm just naive to expect that confirmation of something positive for the coming season would prove devisive.
As c-poo would (and does) say, "The season just can't start soon enough!"

Go Lady Vols!

It just came to me in a moment of clarity: The Vitello disturbance in the aura over Knocksville has affected the LV forum.

✔️ "According to the model of the five stages of grief, or the Kübler-Ross model, those experiencing sudden grief following an abrupt realization go through five emotions: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance."

Vitello and Caldwell have something significant in common: they both managed to get huge numbers of both men and women to fall a little bit in love with them. In all my years of following Tennessee sports, I don't think I've ever been aware of any two coaches who had the level of appeal that these two have. Whether they acknowledge it or not, many, MANY male Tennessee fans have huge crushes on Tony Vitello -- probably just as many crushes as women have on him. It may take a while for some broken hearts to heal after he's gone.

And from what I've gathered, Kim has the same universally dynamic appeal. It's really kinda sweet.

I dont think any poster has put down Latham. Maybe saying wait and see, but that's not putting one down. Latham clearly improved and was really good late in the season last year. If she even improves, getting just 5 more min a game she would already put up better stats. I don't believe anyone is saying Latham doesn't have a higher ceiling this upcoming season. More let's see what the freshman do and see how the minutes play out. I am of the opinion Latham is going to have one of those not talked about outside UT, a player that "comes" out of nowhere to other teams and will have to scout her more closely.

Nothing like watching a game to learn more about how a player has progressed from last season. Consistency is the goal if you only get five shots per game but make three of them you are a valuable player for your team versus shooting ten times and making three. Were looking for players that will be consistent in their player get seven or eight doing that your going to win a lot of games.
