Ole Miss vs Oklahoma - who we rooting for?

I think I want Oklahoma to win to give ole Miss a second loss, with the hopes we can handle ou next week. It would also give us a ranked win, which we don’t have.

Counter argument would be an Oklahoma loss means they’re not that good and makes our gsme next week seem easier. They do seem to have figured their run game out.
Flawed logic. They are just as good as they are currently even if they lose to ole miss, not better, not worse. Also, it puts more pressure and motivation on them to win if they lose and become a 2 loss team hunting the playoffs like us.

GO SOONERS! FAHK KIFFIN!

would expect a whole bunch of recent former, and very possibly current college basketball players to be arrested as a part of this scheme as well.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups has been arrested by the FBI for alleged illegal gambling, sources tell ESPN.

My understanding is that Billups was involved in the illegal poker ring that Gilbert Arenas was arrested for. May be related to others, but it’s not for the same thing.

The candidates...
Josh Elander been with Vols since 2018, prior to that was at Arkansas for a season and at TCU for a season. He played college ball at TCU, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 draft and spent 4 years in minor league ball, never got the call up. Already here, has relationship with staff and players, amazing recruiter and the best "up and comer" option available.

Mark Wasikowski - Oregon HC, has been coaching since 1994 got his first job as HC at Purdue went 87-82 in his 3 years there before taking the Oregon job. Has been there 6 years now (counting covid season that was canceled). He's 206-106 there has won them 2 conference tournament championships and 1 regular season. Made Regionals every year and Super Regionals twice.

Rob Vaughn - Alabama HC, only 38 but has been a head coach since 2018. First with Maryland for 6 years where he went 183-115 and won 2 regular season conference titles as well as 1 conference tournament title. Has been with Bama for 2 years where he is 74-42. Has made 5 regionals in his career

Those 3 seem to be the most mentioned...a few others I've seen but I'm not sure if any real traction behind them as options.

Wes Johnson - Georgie HC (86-34) took a long time to get his shot
Link Jarrett - FSU HC (415-262) born in Florida and played at FSU left Notre Dame to go to FSU...don't see this one at all
Dan Fitzgerald - Kansas HC (99-72) only 3 years at this level, but was very successful for 5 years at the community college level (249-73)
Cliff Godwin - East Carolina HC (432-214-1) same age as Tony, been at ECU since 2015 proven winner but also at his alma mater
Kevin Schnall - Coastal Carolina HC (56-13) - played at Coastal, started coaching there and has been there for all but 2 years of his 24 in coaching
Skylar Meade - Troy HC (109-68)
Chris Burke - VFL and current color analyst zero experience coaching at any level

Seems like a lot of names are just being thrown at the wall to see what sticks though... the first 3 I think some merit behind, the others pop up randomly depending on what website you read. Even saw Ohio State's coach on one list.

I assume the phone goes both ways. I just think it's silly to assume that DW is the *cause* of the friction. Everyone seems sure that Tony is blameless, DW caused it, and DW didn't fix it. It seems unlikely to me that fault is purely on one side or the other.
If your doing your job you don't generally hear from the boss as often as those who are screwing up. In the real world people don't have to be best buds to get the job done, in my time I have worked for very few bosses that I would care to hang out with. People are making too much of this and it probably as simple as TV grabbing the brass ring.

I hope he kills it. I am a little skeptical as the skill set as a college head coach and MLB manager are light years apart. I would be more confident if he were going to transition starting in the minors. But that being said, I hope he's a rockstar in the majors, he has the personality.
Lot of different personalities on the MLB teams, needs to scope out what he can and can't say to each individual player... First time TV jumps Rafael Devers for not hustling down the first base line will be box office.. Tony screaming and Devers smirking...

UT - 17
Houston - 8

Interesting game in so many ways....................

* 1st game since the deaths of assistant coaches Bob Jones, Charley Rash, and Bill Majors the Monday before the game.
* 1st Black football player (Houston's Warren McVea) to play a game on a SEC campus.
* 1st use of the Veer-T Offense (Bill Yeoman Houston HC)

I was there, very sad occasion. I remember the black crosses on the helmets too.

Yep, I don't keep up with MLB as much as I used to. This is why the argument of him not getting resources doesn't quite make sense to me. Maybe, but combine that with this being the highest level of the sport gets him there. He's won a title in college, and he's looking for more, knowing that he can always fall back.
This is what I don't get, why people are looking for some cloak and dagger reason for TV jumping to the majors. I love Tennessee as much as anyone and would probably turn the Giants down for them. Everyone is not a psycho like me and would jump at a chance in the majors. IT'S THE FREAKING MAJOR LEAGUES PEOPLE.

That’s a good list. It shows where the program is and what Vitello built.

I still think the best move is to promote Elander and retain Frank, Kivett, and Connell for continuity.

Imo, Tony Vitello is right up there with Robert Neyland and Pat Summitt, as the greatest coaches the University of Tennessee have ever had. Phillip Fulmer, Rick Barnes, and Johnny Majors are on my next level, well below...Rod Delmonico right there with them. Nothing against those 4, they were/are great great, and I love and appreciate the hell out of them; but, along with Neyland and Summitt, Tony...it's been said a million times about a million people, but this time it's the absolute truth, we never really will see another like him.

He's A LOT like Pat...A LOT like her. In MANY ways. Always have thought so. Despite the obvious (friendly...humble (many want to believe Tony is not humble, it's the biggest bunch of bullsh!t in the world...TV is VERY humble, if you pay attention to him and understand what he's saying)...fiery...charismatic...great coach in-game and on the practice field...players would lay waste for them...many ways); and, like her, he's been somewhat of a pioneer.

While I don't think he has meant nowhere near as much to college baseball as Pat did to girl's basketball, girl's sports overall, and college basketball as a whole...this 5-year BOOM of college baseball has been spearheaded by one man, way out front, all alone, Tony V. He is the greatest thing to happen to college baseball in my lifetime; and, I'd say that just as a fan of college baseball. The only ones that won't admit it are haters, plain and simple. They all can eat sh!t. LSU knows it, no matter how many JJ has won. The best college baseball program in the history of the sport came calling, and Tony said... No. NEVER forget that, no matter what's been said, or what will be said.

I wish him nothing but the best...NOTHING but the best.

It's been a pleasure, #22...thank you so very very much.

I agree with much of what you are saying and I believe that if it doesn't work out for TV in the majors he will be back at Tennessee. I realize that he is Arkansas alum, but I think he is fonder of UT or he would have left for the Pig job a while ago.

For those saying CTV will not have more resources in San Francisco are wrong.. The Giants offered Ohtani the same 10 year/ $700 million dollar contract the Dodgers did. Ohtani just choose the Dodgers. Same scenario with Aaron Judge offered same contract the Yankees did but stayed with Yankees..

Maybe TV can help seal the deal with these big money FA's the Giants are looking for...

Arkansas has their Head Coach in waiting sitting in the dugout next to Dave Van Horn...

You assume they wouldn't offset those massive contracts by paying others less if they had landed ohtani or judge. Where the big spenders differ is getting those players AND surrounding them with good players, which is likely the reason judge and ohtani said "no thanks."
