And Tony V is officially gone.

Screw Danny White. That bastard just killed our Baseball program for women’s basketball. Unbelievable
Women's BB pretty much pays its own way. As Tony Soprano said, "It's just business." An AD has to make decisions which are in the best interest of the entire athletic program. He could never meet Toby V's salary and program demands.

Tony V will make big bucks until he gets fired and fades into obscurity. That's just the nature of the big leagues. I wish him well.

Even if that rumor is true and that’s why Tony V left, that’s on Tony V lol. DW built the dude a new stadium 🤣
You put built as in past tense, there was definitely a lot going on behind the scene, can’t blame TV for losing, but make no mistake DW played his part as well

WBB doesn’t “pay its own way” especially now with NIL. Just lost a generational coach because it was handled so poorly

Football with Josh Heupel is not going to work. Just wait. Ticket prices soon back to earth
Maybe so, however Football will always pay for every sport at UT. They should get the biggest slice, followed by BB men's and Women's. The other sports are pooled likely rotating which program receives a little more year to year

Exactly, but DW didn't
That is the problem here. As the purported "best in the business," you don't just let your best walk out of your company without a fight, especially while you are in the process of sinking over a $100,000,000 into the baseball stadium.

I don't care if it is the San Francisco Giants or the San Francisco Dons, you make it as difficult as possible for someone to take your best talent.

Indiana's AD didn't waste time with Cignetti. In that coach's office all the time talking to him, doing what was needed to retain his strongest coach.

White wanted him out. If he didn't, then he personally would have made a more concerted effort to keep his best coach.

He's done a good job selecting coaches. That may well prove to be his saving grace because personal communication with employees is, by his own admission yesterday, not something he considers part of the job.

I bet Randy and Donde were thriiiiiiiiilled when they heard him say that  😒

You do understand both programs lost millions last year? Baseball has NEVER made a profit and the LV program has. If they return back to making finals and winning nattys they might get back to that point, while baseball WAS at that point and still lost 2.3 million compared to 2.5 loss. Some people are obtuse to the fact there are literally facts out there that show a different story!
Your facts may stand true for the past, not the present. Of course money matters. Profit matters. It also matters what the sport is currently doing for the university. We both know there has been much more excitement abd national attention for baseball over the last years. This is a world of what are you doing for me now? Not “What did you do for me 20 years ago”?

Do you believe Danny is going to tell every detail ? Do you feel he should ? Tony left us. He has flirted with other schools the past two years and now finally took the big job. He always talked highly of Arkansas. I believe he did everything 1000% when it comes to the Vols until he chose to leave. What you are a lot whining journalist stirring all kinds of sh1t because they don't like DW. Let me add there are probably a few truths but how do you decipher ? Sh1t like denying his niece to they didn't like each other. What stands out to me is he was given keys to everything he wanted from staff to NIL to a stadium and he still walked over a couple hundred K and you guys want me to believe that ? I call BS

I’m not one on here to take if for coaches and ADs but this notion that DW should’ve been sleeping on TV doorstep and crying at his feet every morning is silly. That’s just emotional fans.

The two probably met like adults, put it out there, and that was that. This is how grown up business works.

White puts out a statement regarding how much he's investing in the baseball stadium in quick fashion after word gets out Vitello is on his way out.

If only we had seen that kind of initiative put in place to keep the coach responsible for that investment, then we very well could have had a much different outcome at play here.

It is the Giants, one of the most storied franchises in baseball. It is a unique opportunity. And yet Tony Vitello spent days thinking about it.

That was the time of opportunity for an athletic director to walk into that office and actually communicate with his best coach.

What if we had been able to keep him? Can you imagine the benefits accruing to Vitello, his program and the athletic department as a whole to be to able to say he turned down this special chance for Tennessee?

Maybe he still goes.

But I don't think it is an insane expectation to demand your athletic director make the effort here.

He said it himself; he doesn't talk to coaches.

That is not how a proper business operates, especially when it comes to a question of losing your top employees.

How does it work? Take a look at Indiana's AD to see the way it is done.

I never knew you could call BS...

Plowman and Boyd better watch this snake. He has already lied over the season ticket stuff just to steal more money from the fans.
He's hired good coaches. Heupel has been good. Caldwell a breathe of fresh air.

He just let a great coach walk without a fight. For the sake of the program and the investment people have made into that stadium, I hope White brings in someone who can carry on the momentum.

Sports Illustrated reporting Tony will be making less money with the Giants than he did at UT. Doesn't matter whom you get to replace him. We will never accomplish year in and year out with what he did. The best coach of any sport here. We had Nick Saban for baseball and didn't try to keep him. That's what has me bummed out with all of UT sports now. Too much money going into football with what little results we get every year. I finally realized all the football hoopla to build the fans up only to not get halfway up the mountain and gave up my season tickets.
Football is soon heading back to 25 thousand empty seats with Heupel and ticket prices will be back to a reasonable level.
