Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I am 2-1 on the road excluding games at Neyland West (candy)
83 Meadowlands at Rutgers 7-0 W (Alan Cockrell and Johnny Jones)
85 Sugar vs Miami 35-7 W
94 at UCLA 23-25 L (Peytons 1st game)
All 3 coasts
My worst loss at home was the pig Howard fumble.
Again the bulldogs.

Is Kirby Smart's team better this year than the two years they won the natty? What about his team last year? Why is he regressing?

Oh come on now! Smart can get a pass and has the benefit of the doubt if he has a slightly down year (which isn’t a given yet since they’re still in the thick of it right now) the guy’s teams have played for 6 and won 3 SEC titles and he has 2 National championships won back to back. He’s proven he’s the real deal. Hype is so far 0 for in championships, hasn’t even got us playing for a championship yet and he’s 0 - 5 against Smart.

I’ve thought of that angle of the selection of games I’ve attended and that does have a bit of merit, but I want to see good quality games and opponents and rivalries, but even then if I had went to Columbia Missouri I’d have seen us get run out of the stadium for Pete’s sake ... Missouri for crying out loud or Fayetteville Arkansas last year, I was in attendance when a worse than shatty South Carolina team took us behind the woodshed. Yes, I fully believed we could and should have had every opportunity to have beaten Bama. I never once traveled to a road game in the Fulmer era that I didn’t think we could win. Why attend any game at all if you truly believe you have no shot at all of winning. Name one team in the Hype era besides Ohio State that was was just truly far and away better than us that kicked our ass? On paper and talent wise we should stack up with most teams and have a true chance to win if we’re coached well and play well. Losing to piss poor teams like UF, Arky and South Carolina have left a bad taste in my mouth. Hype just doesn’t cut it for Championship level, especially on the road. Just my take on it. I ain’t a hater, but I ain’t Mr optimistic with him either.
I am not going to tell you how to fan but you're doing this to yourself.

Fulmer started with a better team, recruited better and lost games he shouldn't have. His championship year was as much luck as anything. He crapped the bed against Florida so much some fans are permanently scared for life.

You're choosing to get pissy about a game played by young men more than half our age.

Regarding performance specifically in SEC road games against Top 25 teams, Tennessee holds a 3-6 record under Heupel. While this road record might seem modest, it is noted that only Georgia's Kirby Smart has more SEC road wins against Top 25 teams in recent years, posting a 4-2 record since 2021
No! He sux.

Not pissy, I quit getting pissy about TN football about a decade and a half ago, just pointing out that I think we should be better, just more to rant and start the topic of conversation on the subject than anything.

I do however take losses to Bama sorta pissy I reckon.

My best win at home was 89 vs Auburn (payback for 88 disaster... 89 was a fun year). I had seats in the dry end zone (north) where Reggie took it to the house.... maybe the best except for the 82 game vs the gumps or another one that will come to mind like the 92 gators Mose Phillips raining so hard I cant see the field game lol

.

That sorta gets counterbalanced by getting your teeth kicked in by 30 points to the likes of unranked South Carolina and Missouri. I mean what exactly good does it do you to beat LSU (in an 11am game mind you) only to have Shane Beamer hand you your ass a few weeks later?

Mine.
The Arkansas stumble and fumble
I was at that one too! We had seats in front of the press box and Kenny Chesney did the Touchdown Tennessee serenade at halftime and I will never forget looking back at the press box and seeing JW beaming. I think it was 0-21 before the epic comeback

Lol

So the game against SC has tons of questionable crap around it and you ignore it and use it as a reason to crap on CJH

He beats LSU on the road and you crap on the win bc of the start time

Absurd

Lose by 1 or 30 who cares
Win by 1 or 30 who cares

It's pretty simple. In January of 2021 we fired Pruitt and Fulmer resigned. We were at what appeared to be the abyss. If on February 1st of 2021 I came to you from the future and said the coach we hired has had two top ten seasons, made the playoffs, beaten bama twice, beaten Clemson, beaten LSU on the road, beaten Florida twice, and is recruiting at his highest level ever in year five. But oh he lost a close one to UGA at home and lost to Bama on the road, 99% of the people on this board would have been tripping over their dick to sign up for that. That's what CJH has done. Perspective people

He's way out performed expectations

I didn’t ignore it, I asked what good did it do us in the long run. Hey it’s all good, if being pretty decent is okay with you then so be it, nothing at all wrong with that. Too bad that there are some of our rivals that don’t settle for that.

It's called building something. He's currently recruiting better than ever. Have an ounce of patience. And you certainly are crapping over a win for a really dumb reason

Time will tell. I don’t see him winning anything of significance ever, too many negatives that I’ve seen on game days, but I’d love to be proven wrong and will gladly tell VN and the world that I was.

Just out of curiosity, how many years should we be content to build, to not ever play in a conference title game? if not 4 then not 5 is it 6? if not 6 then 7? if not 7 then 8? if not 8 then 9? What do you consider acceptable here?

Well I hope you realize parity is way different now then ever. For example, would I be surprised if UGA didn't win a national championship in the next decade? Nope. The game is way different bc of NIL. We should judge things by playoff appearances IMO

If we are in the playoff 75% of the time we should be good with that.

This is a completely different sport then it was two years ago

who do you want to be the coach?

I could name 15 right off the top of head. One that doesn’t shat the bed under pressure all too often, one that gets us to Championship games at some level while I’m still alive to see it. Saban, Myer, Smart, Spurrier all played for Championships in 3 years or less. Lanning is doing the same, Cignetti has Indiana of all places in the top 4 in year 2, was in the playoffs in year 1. DeBoer had Washington in championship form in 2 years. How many should we give Hype before we think he can’t do it? Championship level coaches almost always show their worth early on. Hype is a good coach that has stabilized the program and deserves a ton of credit for that, but can he take it to the next level? If the stated goal by Danny White is to play for and win championships, how long is long enough to wait for that opportunity?

I’d be all for being in the playoffs 75% of the time, that would mean you more than likely had an opportunity or 2 or 3 or more to play for the conference title. Totally acceptable for me.
