Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Wtf. I see Louisville signed a G League player. I also see that players that have played professionally overseas for years have eligibility now. Somehow there’s still no contracts for college players and they can just leave programs whenever they want.
College sports…..isn’t it great? Better than ever.

Have a die hard OSU fan that works for me. He’s glad their football is great but he also wishes basketball and baseball were competitive. They’re not even competitive. He has 4 months of fun in sports. We have 12
We also have to recognize Pat’s legacy isn’t just a mindset, it means competitively funding the Lady Vols. That’s less 💵 for men’s sports, but it also means we’re competitive across the board. Only so much money to go around.

Not a bad thing. We just have to recognize the tension and be okay with it.

Again, if you think a national championship winning coach shouldn't get face time when he's contemplating leaving then you are really living in a fantasy land.

If you believe that Chris Burke, VFL is spreading rumors, along with KR, one of those most respected media members in College Baseball, then I'm not sure what to tell you.

You are certainly welcome to those opinions. 😅
You know that TV requested face time with DW? One of your buddies on staff tell you that, or are you filling in informational gaps to make your argument more compelling?

Its important to Tennessee fans, we have pride in every sport we compete in. These people down here are uga football fans and that's it, they couldn't tell you who plays basketball, baseball, wbb, etc. We aren't like that, we are proud VOLS fans, and that includes every sport we participate in. We are deeply passionate about all things VOLS......... Not many fanbases are like we are. We are still the best most passionate fanbase in the country.

He shouldn't have to request face time with TV. That's the point. Look, you can believe that TV in reality took a pay cut to leave a team with the #1 recruiting class, a brand new stadium, a team that was arguably the best he's had since he's been here, to chase a dream of coaching MLB when multiple credible media outlets have reported that isn't the case, if you want to. That grand canyon leap is a little too big for me.

I stated earlier that both parties shared the blame for it getting to where it led.
I agree. It also wouldn’t shock me if the same guy that got into his former boss’s face after a game over what was allegedly a minor recruiting incident might also not be the easiest guy to manage as an AD.

I also remember hearing that Tony was annoyed at the fanbase for not being more outraged over the Osuna ruling. I remember thinking: “D**n, Tony. This has happened to us in multiple sports for what seems like forever. We only got so many mattresses to burn!”

Must be why UT is trying so hard to keep him

“I think Danny White would be happy if Tony Vitello left.”
Which attention-seeking anti-Tennessee asshat said that?

I’m not going to watch those goobers and posers FaceTime each other and drag on and on to find out.

Doesn’t matter at the end of the day.

Tony made his choice & left, whatever his reasoning that’s the end of it.

DW has hundreds of employees, I work in a large organization and I’ve never met my main boss in the 8 years I’ve been here. He’s also got a job to do in finding the best hire to fill the enormous shoes left.

I appreciate that he asked Frank to be the interim. I fully believe whoever he hires will be someone he thinks is the best candidate for the job. Him asking Elander to interview is a positive imo. Having him go through that process will benefit both DW & Elander.

I believe there were issues between DW and TV. I think the San Fran job was Tony's way out of Knoxville and the plan was to keep the rift between them quiet. There were just too many former players/friends close to Tony that knew how the 2 felt about each other and posted on social media about it. Tony is a cool guy but his blood runs hot and if Danny had "pushed his buttons", I could see TV getting into it with DW. Neither one of them seem like the type to just let it go.

I'll say this, DW sounded like a politician during that press conference. He's a slick talker and for that, I would believe what Tony says over Danny anytime.

I will miss Tony Vitello. He opened my eyes to college baseball and I appreciate him for what he did for UT. I believe he loved his players, the fans, and Knoxville. I also think he is a genuinely honorable man. I'll consider him a VFL.

Team Tony. Make a good hire Danny, then git.
