Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

An Ole Miss mod on 247 said that Lane Kiffin was being truthful when he said he was in no hurry to worry about his contract situation while the season is going on. Ole Miss wants to pay him more than Cignetti got from IU. Sounds like Kiffin realizes he is the hot name and probably wants to drive his leverage as high as possible.

“Before that bum Moses started meddling, we had it great in Egypt. Constant construction work and a bag of grain a day. Yeah we’d have our male babies purged every now and then and take some ass whippings, but it’s way better than moving forward and eating damn Manna! Fire his tablet carving butt and get a real AD!”

Some would do good to remember, only 2 known people, that came out of Egypt, made it into the promised land. At least half a million came out, only 2 made it. And, the biggest reason why?? Grounded/simple answer: they wouldn't stop complaining and being stubborn.

The original Blue Hairs.

Sounds like TV wasn’t happy with the extra spots that the school could pay for. 34 is the scholarship number, but I think you can have 4 more paid by the school (redshirts or injured?). I think DW told TV he could add 2 of those spots if I recall.

December 1 is the deadline to set the roster for the season, and I think I read we currently have 41. There was a suggestion that DW wasn’t happy that 5 would be cut.

Yeah, there is a bit of a grey area for this year. But 34 will be the number going forward.

40 was the “for just this one year” number I read, DW mentioned specifically that they would adhere to the roster limits and each coach was advised to reach that number.

Rick has 13 I know are on scholarship, 15 on roster though so whenever it’s cleared he can use all 15.

Seems baseball had the biggest overhaul, but I would’ve assumed a coach being able to put all 34 players on scholarship would be a positive.

Where has it been reported that DW wasn’t involved in trying to keep him? I’m sorry, but that’s just Qanon level insanity. Unless someone like Chris Low or Thamel reports that, or someone far more reputable than Basilio, then I’ll eat crow. But until I see that, I’m choosing to believe that’s ridiculous.
Chris Lowe said that on a radio show in Nashville. Said an assistant AD was assigned to work with Tony and his team. He said Tony and DW hadn't spoke in months.

I suggest you see what people outside the program are saying. People that know.
This is where I’m at. I would love to be able to just chalk this up to a great coach taking a great opportunity and look forward to the future, but I would have to convince myself certain people are lying when I don’t think they’re lying.

I just can’t do that.

FOOTBALL NEWS…

Not sure what has happened today to change the spread line drastically, but something has. The line continues to drop. A couple of books including ESPN's has it down to -7 1/2 yet 79% of money is on Tennessee. All of the books have dropped some from the -9 1/2 to open. Starting to wonder if we're gonna see Joey's name show up as questionable on the injury list tonight.

Either 1 of the Birmingham boys or Killer Kyle have been assigned to our game.

*The SEC won't mind a bit to kick us while we're down.

He will get criticism if the new baseball coach struggles but as long as football and men’s and women’s bball are good DW will work here for as long as he wants
Grand scheme of things, baseball makes no money for the university and overall it doesn’t make or break a university
People care about football and basketball
Yes you want to be good but it really doesn’t matter with baseball
Ads don’t get fired for bad baseball hires

Not trying to be a dick either
I agree. We know DW is 100% about the money. I don’t watch/care about MLB but was a fan of the Vols BB. It's a crap shoot whether it will be close to the same level.

I almost said this earlier. It's absurd that anyone thinks this has anything to do with lack of resources. I think that was entirely overblown and I said it early during this process. Both our portal haul and our recruiting is absolute peak. The resources are going to be there for the next guy too.
Tony was a dynamic stud of a baseball coach and made it must see TV. I loved having him here and wish he had stayed but he got a great opportunity to chase a dream. Not sure why people feel the need to blame our AD who has given him a ton of resources. Sometimes talented people get hired for a perceived better opportunity. Hopefully people will settle down and be a little more rational in the coming days. I still think it's likely he hires Elander but I certainly don't know anything. It will be very easy to get a great coach but there is only one Tony V.

He just signed the number 1 class and you think he did that with a lack of resources? You're usually a little more balanced than this Involuntary. Go for a walk and take a deep breath.
Sure he did but that doesn't mean he was at a disadvantage to other programs. And, I'm 100% more balanced than most in here that claim despite a mountain of evidence that DW did all he could to keep him. My belief is he really didn’t care.
