Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

I hate to give you a question to your question, but if the relationship was so bad with DW, then why take 5 days to make a decision to leave or not? If you hate your boss that much, getting a promotion and you're getting a pay raise, should be a no-brainer, right?
I've already answered, but again, I think his love for Tennessee, his players, and the fans made it difficult, even in light of a strained relationship with the way the AD was being run with regard to his program. I bolded that part to say this; by White's own admission, he didn't have much direct involvement with Vitello. Tony dealt more closely with Tyler Johnson, which likely served as a buffer between TV and DW.

He's reportedly taking a pay cut, fwiw.

Again, he was second highest paid coach in the sport (second only to a guy with two natties) and $105 million dollar stadium renovation. Also multiple top recruiting classes. Nearly every sport doing better than when he got here. Mega investments in all sports. Record revenue.

But please, use your feelings for the basis of your argument. A day before the original Giants news broke Danny could do no wrong.
I never said Danny Dollars could do no wrong... His hires at his previous job have been underwhelming....lol.....carry that water for smedium shirt wearing schmuck.......

The disconnect here seems to be between Football first fans not understanding why a baseball coach could possibly make people turn on the AD. I mean, it's just baseball.

It's literally how you football fans feel when some Redditor who calls everything "sports ball" doesn't understand why you like football so much.

Our athletic director had such a great relationship with our national championship coach that he rarely talked to him, and had a handler named Josh Turner who usually talked to Tony on his behalf.

Danny Dollar.... the plumber.... what comes around goes around.......

Chris Burke "there is no way this was just the allure of the Giants"

Fortunately for me I love both. Played football in college but have a life long love with baseball.

DW is so out of touch. Was an embarassing press conference.

That’s what I can’t get past. That presser was a travesty in so many ways. This will be used against him for not just this hire, but other hires in other areas as well.

I don’t have an axe to grind against AD White, he’s done a lot of good things in his time here. I just don’t think his messaging was on point and the whole thing came across as an overly defensive and poorly thought out exercise because he felt threatened. Maybe I’m using the wrong word, but it was really off.

He seemed really nervous and anxious.Maybe he needs a drink.

Not true considering we won the national title in 2024 and two SEC titles the last four years...so obviously Tony had the resources to win titles.
The Entire landscape of college sports changed on 7/1/25. Rev Share is critically important as well as working for an AD who values and supports you.

To me that press conference was a gift from God. Danny White walked into this job not having to worry about Baseball because it was running itself while having a manager who was biggest ambassador for the university.

To me, Danny White is smart enough to not fight the fanbase on this one when push comes to shove. This is the fan base that rejected a bad coaching hire being shoved down their throats. In this case, there is a clear great coaching hire that White can make that would keep the train rolling and unite the fan base for a sport that isn't a revenue generator.

Danny White doesn't know it yet, but my guess is the minute it starts dragging out is that Elander isn't being serious considered, fans and former players will start the pressure campaign.

Danny White is smart enough to not fight that battle. He looked like a stumbling and bumbling fool

Nah you’re spot on. It was a bad presser. I’m not buying all the BS funding/animosity whatever nonsense being spread by Basilio and like minded fools. But DW didn’t do himself any favors. And the “you should apologize to Kim” was a bad angle to take, and this is coming from a huge Kim Caldwell/LV supporter.

The 5 days may have been just hammering out the details of the contract with SF and allowing time for a formal announcement. This came to light by reputable sources on Saturday, after all. For me, the reporting indicates a deal in principle was in place Saturday (or earlier) pending the details and an appropriate timing for an announcement.

That would also explain the admission by DW that they only spoke once or whatever he shared today. Decision may have already been made.

I hated TV left. He did a great job here but this is the 3rd straight year he’s been asking for money. Two years ago it was for the stadium. Tennessee responded Last year it was for him & his staff. Tennessee responded. This year most likely turned some people off. I go back to Johnny Majors. His constant complaining about money ended his Tennessee career, by those with the money, not the AD.

I can’t blame White for wanting to raise the Lady Vols program. That’s a national brand. They can turn a profit there instead of losing millions. His job is the manage the dept to obtain the best results, competitively & financially.

I wish TV well in MLB. I hope White hires a great BB coach not some clown like Todd Raleigh

According to DW presser:

Rev share as he stated:

5% for “other” equalling $900k of which $750k went to baseball, which means women’s bb got $900k. That difference is a far cry from the $5mil and $2.2mil figures that got tossed around.

5% at $900k puts rev share at $18mil. Thought it was $20.5mil

Either way it sounds like those numbers might be slightly off but also sounds like the rumor numbers were way off. 5% of 20.5mil would be 1.025mil. So yeah appears the rumors were simply rumors or at least gross exaggerations of truth, assuming it was ONLY about rev share.

He also stated a operating budget of $14mil and that being the highest or close to highest in ncaa, so unless that’s a lie too it doesn’t seem like a lack of commitment to baseball excellence had the role in this that many are saying.

Ok flame away for me being a blind DW supporter.
