Tennessee Lady Vol News

I remember last year really early in the season that Kim was specifically stating that Latham had a really good three-point shot. Now that has another year of experience and has adjusted to our system, it time for this to Manifest!!

Only 53 career attempts, but she's hit 30% of them. That's 0.9 pps by itself + throw in our high offensive rebounding percent and that's a perfectly fine percentage to shoot with. She is our most underrated returner IMO. Looking at her and Kaniya to hav a strong year 2 in the system.

The hope is that she can hit shots in real game situations. It is imperative that players get in the gym to get shots up to increase accuracy, but you never know if a consistent 60% shooter in practice sessions will be able to do it in games. Not gonna mention names, but we had one in the recent past who had a reputation for being a dead-eye shooter. She apparently regularly lit it UP from 3 -- in practice. Bless her heart, she just couldn't find the bottom of the net in games her last two seasons.

Anyway, I hope and pray Latham can give us some buckets from deep this season. She was one of my favorite players last season for her quiet, consistent toughness on the floor, and so I am greatly looking forward to watching how her hard work in the offseason pays off for her. Love her competitive drive!

Great to hear that Civil has really developed her 3-point shot, and her overall mentality and confidence have improved a lot since summer.
It seems that Coach sees Civil being an impact player as a freshman, which says a lot about her progress and perhaps that she was underestimated in some of the recruiting services. Her descriptions of Wolfenbarger being a freak of nature in that she is as fast as Civil but with such size was also exciting, especially her saying that her speed and size would be perfect in leading the press (can you imagine civil, coop, and Wolfenbarger together on defense!). I thought I couldn't be more ready for the season already and then I listen to the video and feel ready to break into TBA ASAP!

interesting too have a presser without a focus on Cooper. nor questions on point guards I do wonder how the younger players will have their roles defined, now and by SEC time.

Barker's comments on media day were tellng re the final four experience - her role and by-the-way don't think her potential was maximized. couple that with Coach's assessment on her scary upside.

I never get too carried away by what coach says in pre-season. Last year Kim was super high on Puckett this time of year leading into season. It just never clicked for her last year.

Really interested to see all the new players in motion in a couple weeks!

Kim always interviews well, but this one got me even more excited for this team than usual. As others pointed out, the things she said about Civil and Wolfenbarger 'bout gave me the vapors! That was some excellent insight into those two, and I cannot wait to see them play.

Gosh, y'all. The season really is just around the corner. can you believe it?! ☺️

Her poker face is always wildly good. When they asked her about North Carolina she gave NOTHING and still gave a great answer.

From the article, and @Coach Jumper:

"Alyssa Latham could be a fantastic role player and option to stretch the floor." [emphasis added] 👍
I think she will play as much as anybody. Will start some games when she has a game better than others. We have no starter other than who we will see in game one. Only way they keep it after that is to be the best five every game going forward.

based on last season, we can expect a lot of line-up fluidity in the pre-conference season for sure.

To add context to the preceding post, the quote about Latham is from report writer, Ryan Lauter (and not CKC), who observed a "short portion of practice open to the media for viewing as the countdown to the season continues to dwindle." His observation about Latham's role is as speculative as anything posted on this board.

It seems likely question that as the season goes on, a core group will emerge who get more minutes than others but I would that ticking order is still up for grabs. Given the quality of the incoming class, it is quite possible that an existing player like Latham might fall down the ticking order but again, she might surprise.

I can’t completely agree with you on this one. Yes, she had her struggles last season—especially with fouling—but Latham brings valuable college-level experience. By the end of her freshman year, she earned All-ACC Freshman honors, marking her as one of the top 25 players in the 2023 class. While the incoming freshmen are talented, they haven’t yet faced the grind of high-level college basketball, and at some point, it’s inevitable they’ll hit that “freshman wall.”
For Latham, adapting to a new system, conference, school, and playing style may have contributed to her dip in production. Still, she essentially matched her freshman-year numbers while playing fewer minutes and taking on a smaller role. That consistency speaks volumes. I believe she’ll be a key piece—an X-factor—for this season. As @coachjumper mentioned, she’s been putting in the work all summer, and we’re all hoping it shows once the games begin. If anything, her playing time should increase, and she’ll likely be among the top seven in the rotation.

Just speaking from practice and other reports that she has hit a higher gear as a player. Has shown vast improvement over the summer. She was really coming on late last season so I expect her to be in there a lot and in a starting role occasionally.
