Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

I'd be fine with Chris Burke over the Kentucky guy. Oregon has a good coach, but the west coast thing doesn't ever work here, although I'm still soured by Serrano. Jay Johnson has worked well.

Elander or bust for me.
you are going to be disappointed. The next Tennessee baseball coach will not be near as good as Tony Vitello.......

If Tony truly could not stand working with DW, he would have gone in the last couple years to another SEC or D1 coaching job. If Tony could not stand to work with Danny anymore and wanted out, this would have been announced Sunday, and he wouldn't have had two practices and a scrimmage.

This only happened because the Giants are offering a once in a lifetime opportunity. Even if all the hens are being let out of the coop on Tony and Danny's relationship and it played a small part, Tony was going to take this job period.
Strongly disagree with your first paragraph. This was held up by Tony and his love for Tennessee. If you listened to Danny's press conference, you heard him say that Tony was essentially shielded by a program director. He (White) rarely dealt with Tony one on one. That buffer is likely what kept the peace. And if Tony really believed that funds weren't being allocated fairly, right or wrong, that may be what finally pushed him over the edge.

Yes, absolutely, the draw of an MLB job was certainly a factor. Probably the biggest factor. But it wasn't the only factor.

Players who enter the portal will not be eligible to play this season unless they transfer down or are a Grad Transfer. Hindy is our only Grad Transfer.
Not being a smartarsss but have you been able to find the actual rule? I have searched for it over the last few days but I have not be able to find the actual rule - only articles about what the new transfer rules say and don't say.

Danny’s job is to make money for the university. He also made Tony the highest paid coach in college baseball plus renovated a stadium for 103 million dollars. So for people to say that he didn’t support Tony or the baseball team is simply not true. I love Tony and hope he kills it in the bigs but saying he didn’t get support is simply not true.
careful, that level of logic will get you called a Danny White bootlicker by the crowd that wants to be angry at somebody

I would make Elander the coach and do it quickly. He deserves it, worked under TV enough to know how to coach and keep recruits. The portal has changed the game and the rules have changed as well regarding transfers on a coaching change.

And you know this how? You don’t have the slightest idea what was or wasn’t delegated to assistant coaches. Not all head coaches are great at delegating and not every assistant coach is capable of being a head coach which is why a search absolutely needs to take place

I've been reading the 2025/26 NCAA rule book for two days trying to find an answer on this and I haven't found anything definitive.

That is what is frustrating me is that people keep thinking his relationship with DW is the main factor for him leaving, or that DW was pushing Tony out the door. Neither of that is true.

While I'm sure DW is not exactly the most pleasant human being to work with, I think people are not considering that TV is absolutely no walk in the park either. This is the same man that confronted his old boss over a recruiting incident that happened a year ago in public after a baseball game that delved into a shouting match.

If TV was leaving Tennessee for any other college job, or for an MLB job like the Colorado Rockies, then DW would likely deserve the vitriol he is receiving.

Personally, I can't pin much of this at all on DW, even if he had a poor relationship with TV, because the job offer in question was to manage a premier MLB franchise. TV is taking this job even if he and DW were brothers.

The offer TV got is like the premier coach in college football being offered an NFL job like the Pittsburgh Steelers or Green Bay Packers.

One's job is to win Championships, and did.. The other's job is to manage his coaches and give them what they need to win championships, and didn't.

Not true considering we won the national title in 2024 and two SEC titles the last four years...so obviously Tony had the resources to win titles.

Same here - commentary suggests that when a coach leaves, then players can transfer without penalty within a certain time frame following the new hire......

"The second alteration pertains to the transfer exceptions granted to players after coaching changes. The exception currently allows players to enter the transfer portal during a 30-day window that opens the day after their coach leaves or is fired. The committee approved a new format, however, that is shortened to 15 days and begins five days after a new coach is hired or announced, seemingly in an effort to crack down on midseason portal activity."

Man what a terrible week for UT athletics. I can almost stomach a loss to Bama, but this hurts on another level.

All I can say is that press conference by Danny White was not a good look and is only going to stoke the fires more that there was an issue between Tony and the AD or AD White had an axe to grind against Tony V and didn’t do anything to keep him around/pushed him off the ledge. What a poorly constructed and presented mess.
