He's not paid to get his own guy. He's paid to put butts in seats. Paying Elander less to do that is just smart business...unless he doesn't really believe that Elander is the best guy to accomplish that.

How do you keep a coach that is asking for something you as the AD simply can't give him?

2nd highest paid in college ✅
freedom & money to recruit at the highest level ✅
investment from school/county to build a bigger stadium ✅
fanbase that adores and supports the program ✅

Quite frankly...I don't know what Tony V thinks is missing from here.

I don't think that's the case, but I do think Danny likes seeing the candidates and making an informed decision.

He's not a "baseball" guy...he even admitted that in press conference. So he's going to get lots of input and if that ultimately leads to an outside hire so be it, but could also lead to Elander being the hire too. Either way DW will feel confident that he hired the best candidate not just who the fans wanted.

I’d say the opportunity to do something no college HC has ever done and become a MLB manager weighs more heavily in his decision than making a lot more money.

TV has that make up.
