Bill's Baseball Thread [Experts ONLY]

Both the bidders and buyers know the timelines and budgets can’t be met when the deal is agreed upon
Correct!

Also, sadly, the military's contracting official(s) believes them and signs off on it.

Don't forget, Uncle Sam's agents like to do change orders midstream.

It's the 8th circle of hell. Lol

Anyways. Thank you CTV. You didn’t just leave Vol baseball in a better place than you inherited it, you turned us into a monster. And you brought this long time absolute lover of baseball excitement and joy not seen this century. I’ll forever be grateful to you for all of that and wish you great success in the pros. I just hate it’s the Giants of all teams willing to take this gamble. At least it’s not the Reds I guess

I have 2 concerns:
1. DW ****s this up and we go back into a blackhole with the program.
2. CTV simply wanted out and saw going to the bigs for a few years (I have no faith that he won't tank in less than 3) and then go to LSU or AR where baseball is on par or better supported than football. This is a reflection on DW no matter what.

Could have been the Braves but they don't have the guts to do it.

This seems to be a popular view. I don’t blame Danny White, though. He was investing in the program including the coaches. Ultimately, SF chose to offer, and Vitello chose to leave.

I don’t think he wanted out at all. He was just presented an incredible opportunity that he couldn’t pass up. And I don’t blame him. He’s had possible outs at the collegiate level every year he’s been here

I think that was part of it, I am a "where there's smoke, there's fire" kinda guy. I posted the rumor about 3 weeks ago and was assured it was bunk. I've kept an eye open. I've heard too many rumors that the DW CTV relationship was strained. I have to believe that weighed into the decision.

Every coach within the UTAD is begging DW for more. That’s your smoke. There’s a price to pay for being an “everything school” and not just a a singular sport school. The money seems “unlimited” until it gets put on paper and gets added up

He has up to 34 Schollie players to look after. No one else has that many. Not sure DW was sympathetic to that.

Edit: Except Football

Regarding the construction delay discussion, some may find this interesting. Skip to the part 2007 I-580 East Connector collapse. A few minutes of distraction from CTV.

I was living in SF and working in Berkeley. I did not take this skyway, but I did pass by it every day. It was fascinating how quickly it was repaired. And pretty wild seeing it the day after the collapse.

@Orangeslice13, placing a very low bid with incentives paid off.

what's he getting compared to most? Baseball has always got the short end of the stick with schollies. Again, it's an all "everything school" now. Thanks to DW. The money isn't absolutely unlimited. There's been so much put into the baseball program and was promised going forward.

the work done to fix I-40 and I-26 post Helene works here too.

The 34 scholarships are not necessarily full scholarships. And that is new, it was 11.7 that college coaches had to divvy up between everyone.

That is why private schools such as Vandy had a huge advantage for so long, they could get around the 11.7. New rules and NIL helped level the playing field.
