Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

If Tony truly could not stand working with DW, he would have gone in the last couple years to another SEC or D1 coaching job. If Tony could not stand to work with Danny anymore and wanted out, this would have been announced Sunday, and he wouldn't have had two practices and a scrimmage.

This only happened because the Giants are offering a once in a lifetime opportunity. Even if all the hens are being let out of the coop on Tony and Danny's relationship and it played a small part, Tony was going to take this job period.

On the same show, Kendall said Tony had very serious conversations with Texas A&M the last two summers about leaving. Clearly things have been bad enough within the AD and Tony for him to be entertaining new jobs 3 summers in a row.

What hurts the worst is knowing after this he‘ll probably become a legend at a different school a la Nick Saban

He'll never coach in college again. Once you're in the MLB coaching family, you stay there one organization to another. Manager, bench coach, bull pen coach, minors. On and on .

College would be a step down

top 5? you are insane. South Carolina won back to back titles before their coach left and they aren't **** now with a lot more storied history than us.
South Carolina doesn't have the money to field a team. Just look at their disaster of a CFB season. Great QB surrounded by bargain bin players.

You think they have the resources to field a good baseball team when their "money maker" is floundering? They might even be firing their head coach soon if he doesnt turn it around.

Yet wasn't bad enough for him to leave anyways.

2nd highest paid coach and a new stadium. How much more can you ask?

Chris Burke just said on the D1 Baseball reaction show that “There is just no way this was exclusively about the opportunity with the Giants.”

Kendall Rogers agreed with him and then said he heard similar things.

But I guess all the Danny White defenders will just brush them off as not real sources.
The defenders will keep their head in the sand.

Absolutely crushed.

Can only hope Elander is offered (and accepts) the job.

What an awful week for Tennessee Athletics. Losing to bama the way we did and losing TV. 😰

Has anyone thought that this was Tony’s way of getting out of college ball, without alienating a fan base and city that has loved him and that he has loved, and sliding right into that Arkansas gig in a few years?

Not necessarily. It's kinda unprecedented and the money as a non manager would definitely be a step down.

I don’t think Tony was upset with his annual salary. He’s not asking to be paid more for himself. Issues clearly were deeper and about resources for the program, not just how big his personal paycheck was.

I think we’re all expecting that to happen. Instead, I hope he wins multiple MLB World Series, and that we never see him in the college ranks again.

Two things can be true simultaneously:

1 - DW and TV didn't have a great relationship
2 - TV would have at the very least strongly considered and probably still have taken this job even if he and DW were like brothers.

He's leaving for the San Francisco Giants, not another college program or the Colorado Rockies.
