Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

You misunderstand Danny’s job. His job is making money and fundraising through athletics. Sports that don’t make money, that we spend a lot of money on, are a problem.
Okay so in that scenario why did we extend Vitello’s contract and pour millions into the stadium reno? If DW was only interested in the bottom line, he would have been coasting it for years and let TV walk and hired a cheap replacement. It’s clear that isn’t his intention and his actions over the past few seasons have proven that. JMO of course.

I am surprised to hear that his buy-out was only 3 million after received a pay raise to 3.3 million per year. Even a college team could afford to pay that buy out, a cinch for SF. His buy out to UT was probably 20 million. This is typical of UT's past contracts.

Then name one or two.

Trey Wallace of Outkick said on the radio this week that his sources in the AD had basically told him the program will be fine without Tony and that the relationship was not great. Several posters in this forum that have been around for years and have relationships with people in the baseball program have said as much, too.

Trey Wallace had also reported a couple time that Tony and Danny didn’t get along.
Even if that was the case, do you really think that DW would let personal feelings get in the way of making money for the AD? That's kinda what winning a lot does. Why would he risk potentially losing money to let someone he doesn't agree with go?

Really disappointed in him dragging this out and not being upfront after what this fanbase has done for him. We are yet again left in the lurch and a national laughing stock. Can't really thank him or wish him well for that.
He did not drag it out. He was honest with many and most of it was not in his control. Gave them his demands and held to them I am told.

10 years ago we would not have given two ounces of goat feces that our baseball coach left for whatever reason at this point in the season. None of us would be discussing it. We would be talking about the Kentucky game and making fun of how depressed everyone over there is about football.

Tony elevated this program as soon as he was hired into a product worth paying attention to. I did. As soon as he was hired. It was hard to watch every game early, but when the SEC Network came along and pretty much every game was televised I watched all of them. And my 73-year-old mom started watching the games too so we had something to share with each other. I'm really blessed that I have that. I texted her that Tony was gone and she said, "Good for Tony."

The interest in baseball isn't going away because Tony Vitello is. It seems crazy to me that it wasn't enough for Tony that we provided the resources that brought in a #1 recruiting class and a #1 portal class, and another #1 recruiting class that was being assembled and that wasn't enough. But the good news is, there are going to be a lot of really good coaches around the country who have zero ambition to go to the Majors and will look at those resources and say, "I think that would be good enough for me."

If for some reason Elander doesn't work out ultimately, DW will make a good hire.

After everything Danny has done for Tennessee, you're really going to take the word of a hack like Basillio?

If Danny didn’t see the positive in Vitello then he wouldn’t have raised his pay and agreed to renovate LNS. There may have been some friction there as Tony is a bit of a free spirit, but if Danny hated him or didn’t see his value then he would’ve let him walk awhile ago. Now Danny gets to make a very important decision. Hopefully it’s the right one.

I mean... this. Everyone saying Danny White wants to get his guy in there can just pump the brakes til it's Elander or it's not. If it's not? Okay let's talk.

Elander is the right call. Anyone else and I’ll be disappointed. Keep the culture, clubhouse, recruiting class all together. Let’s be smart here.

Danny better get it right. TV bought the entire athletic department some grace. His winning and general like ability takes some pressure off of some of the other coaches. You lose a few more football games after this and it’s going to get sour real fast I’m afraid.
