Tony Vitello to SF Giants (Confirmed)

I really don’t care if some people want to make excuses for Danny. Having a frosty relationship with the best coach on campus is inexcusable. He’s done a solid job as our AD but he’s also benefited from coming into a job where the two best coaches on campus aren’t even his hires.

He’s slid by for many years and fans have accepted the price hikes and transformation of the athletic department because we won a lot of games, especially in basketball and baseball (not his hires). My red line was always keeping Tony. Tony is gone, so Danny better win something meaningful soon or he can leave, too.

Danny has a critical flaw when it comes to people at that level. He can't just watch the organization be successful, he has to have his prints on it and if he doesn't... there's friction. In wrestling terms- he's gotta get his stuff in.

Its why Pensky left, its what cracked the door open for Vitello to leave, and there's smaller examples a lot of places.

CTV is a VFL who left for a MLB job. So by your logic, does every player who left for the NFL, NBA, or MLB before graduation not a VFL? It was no “F U” as you stated. The job was offered on Sat and he struggled with the decision until today. CTV was torn only because he loves TN and Knox and his team.
This is it. How can we fault the guy for being the 1st college coach to go straight to the pros? He literally took us from the bottom to the top of the mountain and now he has a chance to win a world series despite never playing or coaching at any professional level. Augie Garrido didn't get this chance. Mike Martin never got this chance. Our coach did. Regardless if he succeeds or not, we are part of this story.

First, it’s baseball, it has less eyes on it than women’s basketball does! 2nd, not DW’s fault Tony is making a dumb decision! In 3 or less years Tony will be right back to college baseball, and I hope the program that does hire him doesn’t have the resources that TN has POURED into the baseball program. Also at that point other coaches can use his failing in recruiting, so the shine wears off. Either way, DW still is going to pour money into this program that eve at the upper echelon has LOST millions of dollars with it. If Elander has learned anything from Tony on recruiting he will also do just as well here. Heck Tony’s in game decisions a lot of times were stupid, he got by on out talenting people, it’s why they have a ton of guys drafted. Tony was not a head coach prior to coming here, money was poured into the program and it took off. You can say that is Tony, you can say that is the money TN decided to pour into the program. You cannot though say Elander can’t do the same. In the end the baseball team will be fine and Tony will fail and look like an idiot in the process. No way I’d want my ego to take a hit like that, but I guess my ego isn’t as big as his to know that I can’t fail.
The tried and true reaction of "He wasn't that good anyway" or He'll regret this decision". A predictable and classic Volnation reaction to either losing a coach or losing a highly rated recruit or transfer.

I love my Vols, but hate being a fan sometimes. I'm starting to believe we are just cursed. Always pain and suffering for volnation. If it's the most outlandish outcome possible, expect it to happen. We finally have a coach who built a dynasty and juggernaut, then of course he becomes the first ever to bolt from college to MLB. Its almost comical at this point.
