Football (and men's basketball to a lesser degree) are the money makers. And we take great pride in Women's College basketball.

Buddy, the last thing the football program needs is more money committed. Josh Heupel just lost the loudest and biggest proponent for UT Athletics. He’s gonna have to bring it now.

Heupel is teetering on the plateau effect of the football program.

Not that there isn’t pressure. But we are likely to lose our national title winning baseball coach and Rick Barnes within 24 months of each other.

If he was willing to leave now, then he was always willing to leave and just needed to hear the right number to do so.

Better to find out now, rather than on the other end of even more significant expenditures.

I agree we will likely lose Barnes soon. But when I watch us, yes, I see Heupel make mistakes. But I also see some below average safeties. I see a severe lack of depth at receiver. Our 4th best corner option coming into the season is a 3 star true freshman? I know the days of stacking 4 and 5 stars Saban style are gone, but yeah, if we are going to compete with the big boys we need more dudes.

It's clear we arent close to Ohio St level money. Or Oregon. Or Texas. Better players make better coaches.

I don't see how any rational fan can blame Tony for taking this opportunity. He did the unthinkable here at Tennessee and am grateful for the National Championship and all the accomplishments he had while here. The program is in much better shape than he inherited and is set up for another coach to have success. He deserves this opportunity and it is silly to begrudge him for chasing a dream. I wish him much success and hope he knows there is always a home here for him in Knoxville.

This angle of fans blaming Danny White is gonna turn out to make them look like morons.

Tony Vitello just got offered the chance to make history at a historic franchise in the MLB.

Outside of Danny White offering to double or triple his salary, he can’t pass up the chance to go make history.

The notion that him leaving is all because of internal dysfunction with the AD is idiotic.

You are off to a good start. His 3.3 million salary is gone plus they just paid a 3 million dollar buy out to get him.

I think most reasonable BaseVol fans completely understand the dynamics of this. Regardless of what some local radio personality might say... TV is leaving FOR THE MLB for goodness sakes. Mature people will guard their comments and reactions because this is another opportunity to move the bar again. I, however, would be remiss if I didnt mention the concern I have if he's let go in a few years then takes a job like Arkansas or whoever and we have to compete against him every year 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

This right here. He recruits players who dream of playing Major League Baseball and helps them achieve that goal. Why isn't he also allowed to dream about coaching it and follow those dreams? He's earned this opportunity, it wasn't given to him.

Sometimes you forget just how clueless Tony and his cast are. They act like they have insiders information but they clearly don't

Tony did not take a college job.
He took a major league manager's job.
The first time any college coach has made that jump

What Tennessee could add to the deal would not alter the decision whether Tony felt comfortable making that jump.

he is confident that he can do the job (and it's not exactly rocket science) so he's giving it a try.
