Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

This is where I'm at. I've always rooted against certain teams instead of having a team.

Hope he succeeds. The BVS in me worries he might be our baseball Saban and end up somewhere else 3-5 years from now.
That’s really the only thing that has been upset about this, but I do think he can succeed at the MLB level and his coaching style will translate more a younger team like the Giants. Hey, maybe if he fails we will be looking for a new coach in 3-4 years too and he can come home.

I see some people suggesting that Danny won't tab Josh Elander because he's a Tony guy, but I don't see that he has much of a choice. If Elander is an option and he decides to go outside for the hire, the fans will be even more upset with him than they already are. Plus, the timing just makes no sense for any top guy to leave.
The next hire is gonna say a lot about what happened. If Elander is hired maybe it was a clean break...if not then White is a punk. I really dont give a ****. We just lost our only NC winning coach. I dont see any of the other ones sniffing one.

How would fans have a short leash with him if he turned down an MLB job to stay with us?
I have a friend who stopped watching Vol Basketball because Rick Barnes even considered the UCLA job. Now only watches big games and postseason but refused to watch ANY games the couple seasons after that.

Your friend sounds like a miserable human who was never a fan to begin with.

Women’s and men’s basketball are gonna be title contenders this year
Both stout rosters
He went to MLB, not another college team
You can’t compete against the big leagues

Vitello, 47, will be the first ever to jump from college coach to MLB manager without any professional experience
I hope he does great but there is a reason for the bolded statement. The odds are severely against him. The MLB is light years difference from even big time college ball. I think one of his major talents was recruiting, heck I could've won with his teams. That talent won't help him in the MLB.

Tony is taking a pay cut. I’ll just choose to believe the obvious, that it as more of a dream of his to be in The Show (MLB) than more of a riff raff with our own unless it is proven otherwise.

I know I’m the royal pessimist but I can’t deal with our fans devouring our own with the state our athletics is currently in.

Hope folks can back off the ledge, wish Tony V luck.

I do wish Tony the best of luck for everything he did for us. But that said, I’d be lying if I said this process wasn’t a bunch of BS. Took 5 days to make a decision, which sure I get it’s tough, but if he doesn’t come out and say this stuff about DW is a bunch of 💩, I’ll be even more pissed. Because until he tempers the flames, he’s leaving a huge mess behind and a torn fanbase regarding the AD.

Vitello is gonna hate this move and regret it within 3 years.
Maybe, but it's a move you have to make if you're him. A once in a generation opportunity that nobody else like him has ever had in history. It might work out and he could be a trailblazer in the sport, which would make him a legend.

And not just to any MLB team - he went to maybe the most storied MLB franchise, in one of the premier US cities, with one of the most iconic stadiums in pro sports, and it’s a time where it will be fairly low pressure on him to win immediately. This is a no brainer decision for him, it doesn’t compute to me how people are mad at DW or TV over this. It would’ve been like Pearl leaving for the Boston Celtics or Heupel leaving for the Patriots, except with much less immediate pressure to win. It’s a dream situation for TV and one that no one with a brain would pass up.

Elander is not a cop-out hire. He's THE guy. Powerhouse programs have been trying to poach him for several years now. He can take what Tony built and sustain it for sure.

To not hire him would be a grave mistake.
100% and DW has had enough time since TV dragged this out to work out a deal with Elander already.

Announce it today/tomorrow and keep the entire class in tact and get to work!
