Look ahead to 2026

The whole idea of this thread and some of the comments here and elsewhere on this board is that many 'fans' are really not college football fans, but frontrunners that quit as soon as it is perceived we might not make the almighty CFP. These people are butthurt from having to deal with friends or co-workers who are fans of other teams, or from gambling losses, or both.

Half a season to go with games against Kentucky, Oklahoma, Florida, and Vandy coming up, and these people are looking ahead to next year. I mean, seriously, what's the point of even following the sport?

It's a fact. You really think we are winning in the Swamp? Not like we haven't lost 10 straight there. Hell, we should have lost to them last year. You can forget that right now. NOT happening.
I understand that mindset, but if that is the case why are we all of a sudden freaking out after the Bama game? We haven't won there in over 20 years

Agree with you. I was disappointed we lost to Bama but the loss was expected so it was not a season ending tragedy. I will have the same attitude going into the Swamp for the same reasons as winning in Tusc. Just move on to the next game. There is no other choice but to do that.

Breaking

Breaking news ….. Tennessee will loose to Georgia ….. again. lol …. We know that much
A) It's spelled "lose." "Loose" is the opposite of tight.

B) Are you predicting Tennessee to lose to Georgia in the SECCG or in the CFP? Because they're not on UT's schedule next season. It would be strange to know the future...as you seem to...but not to know Tennessee's 2026 SEC opponents, which were announced in the last month or so.

Playoffs or not, I wait all year for 12-16 weeks in the autumn. I'm going to enjoy the rest of the year.
Next year will take care of itself.
I look forward to football season all year too, but I've realized it causes me more stress, anger, and sadness than anything. Many on here, like myself, are likely too emotionally invested and need a football detox.

This season is done. In an era in which it is CFP or bust, last night we proved we won't be in CFP.

That being said, how optimistic are we feeling about next season?
I haven’t really thought about how we might look at certain positions but next year’s schedule could be really tough. Both Texas schools, Bama, LSU, at South Carolina, Georgia Tech in the non conference. The Yellow Jackets will lose Haynes along though and he’s a huge part of their offense.

No UGA, who knows how good Auburn will be.

Games at Arkansas, South Carolina, and TAMU - our poor play in road games would indicate we lose 2 out of 3 in this set of road games. Arkansas always seems to be a problem for us / TAMU seems to have more talent than us . . . And I don’t see that we have a coaching advantage over them.

Win tough home games - which UT is much better at . . . And 10-2 is possible.

Playing GT is a wildcard. They are much improved and seem to be very well coached.

Beating Bama is not a given even playing them at Neyland. Texas could also be a tough game. And LSU.

Great season - 10-2 with a wins next year over Bama and Texas and LSU. 2 road losses.
Good season next year - 9-3 with a win either over Bama or Texas and LSU.
Meh season - losses to two of Bama / LSU / Texas and two road losses / 8-4.
Bad season - losses to Bama / Texas / LSU / and 2 road losses / 7-5.

My guess is we go 9-3. However, if we return to having QB problems breaking in a new QB and this defense looks like a sieve again, 7-5 is a very likely scenario.

I think we win out this year and finish 10-2 /
Probably get in the CFP / get an unfavorable road matchup just like last year (and realize just like last year . . . We should have beaten Arkansas / this year should have beaten UGA).

We have a contested game every weekend from here on out. These will be exciting games to watch. Don't worry about making the playoffs just enjoy the games.
