yes, I know this is NBA and there may be a more appropriate forum. With the question marks about Knecht and the failed trade to Charlotte that was a bit embarrassing, I for one am happy that he is finding a place on the Lakers. I am not a Lakers fan, just a Vols fan.

I know with his skillset and work ethic, he can find a role in the league for the next 4-5 years. Go Vols, and good luck, Dalton.

Technically picked up their option for ‘26-‘27, so don’t hammer me if it’s not an “extension”

Knecht was given significantly more PT than James last season. At this point, Knecht needs to find a way to help himself because it's not like other NBA teams are asking about him or offering trades.

They didn't really have a choice. There's no trade market for him right now and if they don't pick up his option, they risk letting him walk with nothing in return. Picking up his option gives them a year to try and rehab him into something tradable.

Yeah, that's not true at all. Bronny spent most of the time in the G League and barely played at all when he was active for the real team.

Bronny played in a total of 27 games and avg a whoping 6.7 mpg in those games.

DK played in 78 games and avg 19 mpg

Bronny wasn't taking any minutes away from DK... It was DK's bad defense and the fact that he was a streaky shooter at times.

38% as a "3 point specialist" isn't gonna cut it if he wants to stick around in the league. His future will likely be a journeyman if he can get up into the 40%+ range and be like a Grayson Allen or Luke Kennard type of role player.

$44 mil so far, with his total career earnings projected to be around $98.4 million through the 2027 season for Allen. $77.1 mil so for Kennard.

I think 'ole DK would take that

I mean.....that's pretty much how we've gotten to where we are now in general. But I digress.

I don’t like the guys class, but you can’t knock his ability. Has to be valuable to be training, studying, prepping, and playing next to a top five all time player, even if it’s just observational.

DK can be more than just a 3 point specialist. I think he’s more athletic than both Allen and Kennard. I’ve seen both play for the Grizzlies. But you are correct that his defense would hold him back.

Knecht's issue on the Lakers is simply the fact that no one on the team is a particularly good defensive players (except may Jarred Vanderbilt and 31 year-old Marcus Smart), thus his liability accentuates the primary liability for the entire team. He really needs to find a home with a team who could use more perimeter scoring and allows more offensive flow. Doncic and Lebron are so ball dominate (as is Reeves to a degree), DK will never get to show his skills with the Lakers. During summer league and pre-season, DK just doesn't look like himself. Seems to lack confidence and is second guessing himself. JJ Reddick isn't helping him at all, in my opinion by sticking him over in corner standing still for a kickout or sitting him on the bench. He proved time and time again last year (except for the month of December) that when he got minutes he played well for a rookie. When he got sporadic minutes, his production really dropped off.

Allen is a much more well-rounded player than DK. Kennard is a more accurate comparison. DK has plenty of vertical athleticism. He has some issue with lateral quickness. But it's not like it's awful. The way you make up for that is having great anticipation and overall IQ to see things before they happen. He has not shown good instincts as a rebounder. He has not shown the court vision/passing to be any kind of a playmaker. I hope he can grow and become good at all those things. He is young. Hopefully he is given the time. But I think the most likely scenario for success is he becomes a 42%+ 3-point specialist to becomes an adequate defender.

Yeah he needs to get out of LA no matter which angle you view it from.

Knect has a higher ceiling than those guys. He has bounce.
