LOL I don't think Martinez was ever the real problem in the secondary to begin with...Safety play and Banks' playcalling philosophy were/are the main problems.I would have fired Willie every year til last year. Now he has two first founders and likely another draft pick in Gibson in our two deep. Lol
I don't really care about an internal hire, in principle.I always thought Inge came here because CJH like familiarity and it was to build in the next DC with some continuity If a change needed to be made.
Of course VN will bitch that CJH promoted from within even without giving Inge a chance but hey it’s what we do.
Now if Venables is available, go get him.
My point. Lol.LOL I don't think Martinez was ever the real problem in the secondary to begin with...Safety play and Banks' playcalling philosophy were/are the main problems.
I would say pretty much any DC that is part of a coaching staff where the HC has been axed or will be by seasons end. Evaluate who you think is the best and gauge their interest in the job. Hypothetical stuff like this is a hoot. This could be a good convo - Who is on the wishlist? Realistic ones.
A fan of IU’s DC but that dude ain’t leaving Cig.
Also a matter of what staff shake-ups an external DC will be allowed. Heupel likes stability and continuity so I don't think he'd want someone that would overhaul the entire defensive staff. Garner and Chop should be safe and I like Inge as LBer coach. Think we'll be better there once he develops those he recruited. Martinez may decide to retire when Banks leaves. This could be a good convo - Who is on the wishlist? Realistic ones.

It's a long form conversation, but with all the Tony V stuff going on, you could listen to this interview and make a case that he's tired of the college game and that he's going to go to the MLB if offered because he's already dealing with aspects of that now. Or, you could listen to it, and could hear things that would make you think he'd stay at Tennessee and try to make lasting changes within the sports and young men's lives.
It all depends on who survives this crazy season. This could be a good convo - Who is on the wishlist? Realistic ones.

I liked what Knowles did for Ohio St. but he didn't exactly light the world on fire at Penn St. so idk if it was just an off year or if he just benefited from Ohio St. talent.
If Bryan Kelly gets canned, I'd look at Blake Baker. Clemson's DC (Tom Allen).

If fired:
Venebles
Aranda
Blake Baker (I don’t think Kelly survives if another loss or two)
Realistic:
Ron Roberts (Florida dc)
Alan Williams (former nfl dc and analyst)
Knowles (hard pull but what staff will stay)
Tony White (fsu DC)
