That is when Bama finally gets called for PI in these games in Tuscaloosa, with the game all but over and the outcome determined with little impact to Bama winning. Dude was just getting his money’s worth.

That was a young (FR?) DB and was getting abused. I think he had 3 flagrant PI's because the WR kept getting in his face after plays and throwing his hands up at him. This is the only one he got flagged for I can recall. Can't remember if it was Brazzell or Staley abusing him, but the only way that DB could handle them was to wrap them up. There were probably some flagrants by that DB throughout hte game that could have been impactful if called, but this one was too late. The other two I'm thinking of could have been same drive.

All that was just the officials trying to even things up in the unlikely event that somebody reviews their performance later. It was pretty obvious, but so were several others that went uncalled

do another one for the safety / grounding play. clearly a late hit on Aguilar where his body lands on top of him and his hands hit Aguilars helmet, well after the thrown while he's on the ground. Easily could have been roughing the passer / targeting with an ejection.

Here's ChatGPT thought's - thinks shouldnt have been a safety. (I am not sure if it is after the play / dead ball foul. Yes. I am aware it's a judgement call; and it's a badly missed judgement call.)

In NCAA football, if there is:


  • Intentional grounding by the offense in their own end zone (which would normally result in a safety),
  • AND there is a roughing the passer penalty by the defense on the same play,

then the roughing the passer penalty would negate the intentional grounding, and no safety would be assessed.



Here's how the rules apply:​


  • Roughing the passer is a personal foul by the defense.
  • Intentional grounding is a live-ball foul by the offense.

Under NCAA rules, when fouls by both teams occur during the same live-ball period (i.e., before the play ends), it's typically treated as offsetting penalties — the down is replayed, and the result of the play is nullified.


However, if the defensive foul (roughing the passer) occurs before the offensive foul (intentional grounding), the defensive penalty would take precedence, and the grounding would be ignored.


But in most cases — and certainly how it's officiated — roughing the passer will override the intentional grounding penalty because you cannot penalize the offense for a throw under duress when a roughing foul occurred.



Final Ruling:​


  • Roughing the passer is enforced.
  • Intentional grounding is disregarded.
  • 15-yard penalty against the defense and an automatic first down for the offense.
  • No safety.

The screw was on from the jump with the refs and a blind man could have seen it. We had 10:1 penalties last week vs Ark and 8:1 penalties last time at AL. Its shameful. Joey played hurt for most of this game due to their BS. The refs in the SEC are indefensible if logic and honesty are adhered to. Auburn got hosed worse than us...which is a mouthful. It ruins the game.

That said...we have played sloppy all year with pre snap penalties. HS teams don't get nearly as many false starts as we do if well coached. Our staff is better than this. We would have a much better case about the garbage calls ...and refusal to call holding penalties and PI on our opponents like Bama...IF we were a disciplined team ourselves which we are not.

In soccer this is an immediate ejection with no replacement, which I have to admit felt like the right response in that moment. Just Bammers knowing that penalties forced us to use time, which is what they needed.

Gambling has EVERTYTHING to do with the destruction of the game. Officials are bought and paid for weekly. Hell they were discussing the over/under while the damned game was on. IF you did that 5 years ago, you would never call another game. I'm tired of the crap.

If we can’t go fast without the pre snap penalties we need to at least slow down enough to get it right. And it never fails to often happen on 2nd or 3rd and short which is doubly frustrating. There has to be more accountability there. And that goes for drops by wide open receivers and tight ends. It happens once in a while to everybody but not every freakin game. GBO

How many times did we get a ****** spot? I recall at least three or four times at the first down marker.

I've also never seen a runner run past the line to gain with his first step out of bounds well beyond that line (as Aguilar did) and not be awarded the first down. Hell, the booth reviewed and still upheld that one.

^^^ GREAT point that I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere. They reviewed the dang thing and we still got screwed.

**Anyone who watched the game all the way to the end heard the guy calling the game that wasn't a Bama QB for 4 years say in plain English that the refs calling those 4 or 5 penalties on Bama on the last drive " was a way to create a false narrative." Which of course was true. He didn't have the balls to elaborate and say that the false narrative was that the refs called a fair and honest game. A game where both teams were flagged evenly for Oline holding, pass interference BOTH ways, and personal fouls. We got absolutely shafted with spots and penalties and it was so obvious the TV guys complained. Our complaints fall on deaf ears though when we have 4 or 5 presnap/alignment penalties on our offense.
