The problem is not the compensation paid to Vitello year in and year out, it's the revenue share that the university had allocated to the baseball program, which has been moved to the women's basketball program, maybe some of the adidas money as well, which will get carved up in a manner to help fill in the gaps where the NIL exchange has some holes.
Adidas is expecting championship programs for the amount of money they are bringing to the party, football has already crapped out this season and baseball was the next proven outlet for significant championship exposure and should be allocated the necessary dollars to go at it again.
If Tony V hasn't said no publicly before the World Series starts, he's probably gone, in today's college baseball game, the program needs dollars for players much more than any other athletic program as the other sports participants can't always sign with the professional leagues upon completion of their high school education. Happens all the time in baseball.
