You're right you never know, but I think Elander is a better coach than Early. That's subjective and opinion, I admit. Not saying the same would happen here because I think Elander is a better coach. But look at Texas A&M hiring Michael Earley. They gave him the job to keep that roster intact. And it was absolutely loaded with talent. They were the preseason pick to win it all last year. Then, the season starts and they stumble right out of the gate and never even came close to reaching their potential. Just a month into the season fans were calling for him to be fired. Luckily, that team turned it around some but they still didn’t make it to the MCWS and they absolutely should’ve with the roster they had. So while I believe Elander will be a good HC you don’t really know until you give them the role and play actually begins.
I don't know why he wouldn't. He's a competition-aholic. Test his chops at the highest level. Get a significant pay raise. And if it doesn't work, he can pick his college job.I think it’s safe to assume he’s gone. Or at the least it’s better to tell yourself he is. The people still on the “he ain’t leaving” train are setting themselves up for a pretty big heartbreak.
There’s a laundry list of reasons not to do it to a logical person, but like you said.. ultra competitive people sometimes don’t have common senseI don't know why he wouldn't. It’s not the being at practice part that gives me hope, it’s him speaking at a Pat Summit charity fundraiser this morning. He has spoke repeatedly about his desire to be part of a community like UT. I think that’s the part that’s given him second doubts.Still don’t think him being at practice means much. The “decision in 24-72 hours” line from Rosenthal and Passan reads like “whenever the ALCS” is over. Just really hope that is coincidental and he actually is thinking it over.

Bingo. Walking into that stadium being constructed, with the kids he recruited… there’s a reason they’re saying “the longer this goes on the better the odds we keep him.”I guess it could be just part of the deal, but it’d be hard for me to attend practice the last 3 days with the kids I recruited and at the program I literally built from nothing, only to be waiting for tomorrow for the announcement.
Just seems fake and phony and everything against what Tony stands for. All his loyalty talk over the years is at odds with this.
Maybe that’s just how it has to be though.
I’m starting to find more and more BaseVol first fans. Granted, there’s some bias that most of them are on this baseball forum.I don’t think you’re an outlier at all. I’ve been attending football games at UT since I was a freshman in North Carolina in 2000. Football used to be THE sport that captured 100% of my attention. I now routinely find myself (when we were 11th ranked and 5-1) saying “I can’t wait until baseball season gets here.”
I can’t even put into words how much joy Tennessee baseball has brought me since Tony V got here. I’ve been blessed to see them here in Texas for years (going back to Garrett crochet in Round Rock when we knocked off #1 Texas Tech). Baseball is my #1
It greatly benefits Jimmy Sexton. His team likely leaked it.Thats my point. Yes, I know the ALCS series ends tonight. If it’s not happening, why not announce it. UT has no allegiance to MLB to hold off. Tomorrow, we’ll know, I guess. Still don’t like the way this whole thing has played out. The”leaking” is benefiting someone.

I’m sure IF Elander is given the job they there will be plenty of fans who will think that. Just like there were many TX A&M fans whi felt that way when Earley was given the job with the roster he inherited. In fact, the majority of their fans wanted him to have the job to make sure the roster stayed intact. We were most likely getting a few of their players had Earley not been hired.Who is doing that?

In CA it's taxes.Cost-of-living calculator makes less difference and less accuracy as you go up in the brackets. A person earning professional sports salaries isn't going to be spending the bulk of their salary paycheck-to-paycheck. Even if you go extravagant with your spend, the big difference in cost at that bracket is in real estate. So say you're spending for a very expensive house in Knoxville and your annual spend is somewhere over $1 million, but you do the same and your annual spend is $2 million. That $5.85 million gives you $4.85 million for wealth accumulation in Knoxville, and that $8 million gives you $6 million for wealth accumulation in San Francisco, with the same investment options in both states.
This is why the cost-of-living difference isn't a huge deal when it comes to these high-end contracts. Especially with NFL players who may only seasonally live in their team's city.
The Giants wouldn't have an incentive to leak that. Leaking that he's in discussions with them adds pressure on UT to potentially up their offer and create a bidding war. If you're in the market for a particular house, you don't pass the word along to other would-be buyers that you're considering buying that house.I think it’s more likely the Giants leaked it given it came from Rosenthal/Passan. Given the original scuttlebutt originated a few weeks ago now, I think the Giants are forcing Tony’s hand into a decision.
Could be wishful thinking on my part, but that’s my read.
