If Staley "didn't take one step forward," then he committed a false start as the block occurred 3-4 yards downfield.
The replay they showed made it look like Staley didn’t take a step because they didn’t show the play from the snap. They started the replay after Staley had already taken a few steps. If you watch the replay again you will see the black line indicating the line of scrimmage behind Staley. I also thought he didn’t move until I watched the play again.

Sorry, bamawriter, I probably should have responded to the other poster who was confused about this instead of you. You clearly saw it correctly.

My issue is that if you are going to call this one, then call the same penalty on the Bama defender that interfered on Bama's next possession. Call it both ways, but because its Bama its a no call for them

I think it was the correct call but I am not sure. The ball was clearly beyond the line, but Brazell was straddling the line. Is it where the ball is, or where the receiver is?

Similar to a qb that throws a pass. If any part of his body is behind the line, the pass is legal. In other words it doesn’t matter where the ball is?

Any refs out there that know?
