Napier has been fired

You are probably right about that, all Gruden has to do is watch the dumpster fire that is Belichick at UNC and see you cannot coach a college team like an NFL team.
I don't believe anyone would ever question Grudens knowledge about football but the deck is stacked against him for any future job he may take at a major program.

Florida fan beginning to realize the next head coach at Florida isn't going to be Lane Kiffin.

"Why are we using a search firm when we know who we want?"

I posted this in another thread, but I don’t get the obsession with my only looking at current P4 coaches. Of the current top 25, only 6 of the coaches whose teams are ranked came directly from another P4 job. The other 19 were either former P4 coaches who had been fired, coordinators with zero HC experience, or coaches who spent three years or less as a G5 head coach.

You all should be familiar with this process as much as anyone.

When you have swung and missed a few times in a row, you demand a sure thing. The trick is that there is no sure thing. But, the demand is to at least limit the risk as much as possible by hiring someone with as few glaring holes in their resume as possible.

It's why James Franklin has a lot of appeal still. A lot of programs will take a guy who will win 10 games a year, but can't win the big one considering what their immediate past has been.

In truth, that's where I'm at. I'm willing to worry about championships later. Right now, I want a guy that's going to have Florida consistently ranked, qualifying for bowl games that aren't embarrassing to accept, and not have to go to church and light candles when matched up with the doormats of the world. Basically, I'm where you all were before you found Heupel.

When we get back to the level Heupel has gotten Tennessee, then I'll begin to ask about the trophy case. But, I can't watch this crap anymore and that's really saying something because I'm not as invested as I used to be. But, it's still unbearable.

this is another thing that you all should be familiar with. The fan base being blamed for this **** is maddening.

It wasn’t the fans fault things went downhill with Fulmer, Kiffin left, Dooley was a failure, Jones was a failure, Pruitt was a failure.

They all deserved to be fired.

all these florida coaches deserved to be fired.

this narrative is bull.

Totally agree. There are a lot of parallels between the Florida administration the last 10-15 years and the inept UT administration from around 2005-2020. If UT fans didn't make their voices heard, we may have still been dealing with buffoons.

Florida fans have been showing up to games, BHG is still a great home field advantage. Don't know how fans can be blamed. It's just a deflection to avoid pointing the blame to the real culprits, those in power to make decisions.

It's one of, if not the worst, arguments in sports.

You can't convince me someone in the UAA is not paying this guy to gas up Florida fans. It's going to backfire when they end up with someone other than Kiffin.

Yeah. Seems they are pretty good friends, and had a jovial time at mid-field during pre-games.

What was hilarious if anyone saw it, at one point Kiffin was walking back to sideline next to side judge. You could see him "clapping" and mouthing to the ref that he was just clapping. The ref couldn't walk from bending over laughing.

Florida needs the next Galen Hall…
I was thinking Galen Hall.

What UF fans forget about their legendary football history is that is was non-existant for millenia above the mediocre channel before the arrival of Spurrier. FL football as we know it only truly began in 1990ish. It had a brief and otherwordly run through Spurrier & Myer, and somewhat Mullen as best as he could do under the admin, then returned to its roots.

I had a conversation the other day, perhaps in this thread-I forget, with someone who thought that no matter what DJ Lagway was gone from Florida and I pointed out the millions of reasons he has to stay, namely corporate sponsorships. It's why a former Gator said on Twitter earlier this year that there's a divide in the locker room because DJ makes so much more than anyone else on the team and some guys are not making very much at all relatively.

It is nice for someone else to buy you a QB you couldn't have afforded depending entirely on your collective, but the locker room dynamics + the difficulty of surrounding that QB with an elite OL and skill position players is going to be there for the next coach too.

One thing I try to stress to people is that skill players are relatively cheap compared to nearly all other positions, but you're wiser to spend as much as you can on your LOS on both sides of the ball. The teams that seem to be struggling more than others are spending on skill players but their LOS sucks. Think about how many rosters that applies to now. Florida included.

I'd totally be shocked if Kiffin takes that job.

His daughter kept him from taking the Auburn job as she just enrolled in Oxford.

Knox is apparently going to be a recruit in the 27 class at QB.

I don't see Kiffin uprooting one of his kids if they are comfortable where they are at.

Of course as long as Ole Miss wins out, Lane goes to the playoff and the whole "can't win at Ole Miss" narrative goes away for another year.

Because the one thing is true, he won't ever be able to recruit big time defenses at Ole Miss. That has been the case for the past 15 years outside of one year with Freeze paying players.
