I thought it was common knowledge that Tony Vitello and Danny White weren't close? Also, reading things, it is obvious Danny White has a huge ego and wants to see his hire do well. That said, Tennessee baseball doesn't even bring in revenue, so I really don't know how much of a raise you can give Vitello. The NIL thing, though, is a joke.

Maybe I should clarify. I'm sure Tony and DW are not besties. But acting as if this is the main motivation of why Tony is considering the Giants job, which is what Basilio keeps either implying or talking about, is incorrect.

If coach wants to try his shot at the bigs, I hope he succeeds and goes down as the greatest of all time.
Send him off in style and go hire the best damn baseball coach you can!

Well to be fair, you did explicitly say that you "didn't believe anything of the negative between Vitello and Danny White". Your above statement is walking that back.

You also drew into question why the information wasn't reported on before now if it existed/were true.

Those two things are what I addressed.

I'm fine with the idea that any rift between CTV and Danny White is perhaps only part of the reason Vitello is considering the job. Obviously, the ego boost of being wanted by a standing member of the highest stage of your profession plays a role. Being challenged probably plays a role. Money probably plays a role, though I'm not sure how much more actual dollars in hand he gets from San Fran after taxes and COL are considered.

I think all those things play a role in his decision, but I also believe the rift exists and isn't helping Tennessee's cause to keep him in Knoxville. This isn't simply Basilio pushing an agenda.

Very poorly worded on my fault and incorrect on my behalf.

I am of the belief that if this is mainly fueled by TV and how he is wired. He is single. He has no kids. He's in the prime of his professional life. He is a workaholic that is fueled by constant self-motivation and perceived slights. He has reached the top of his current profession and has a chance to do something never done. I'm confident that is the main driver in this.

Fwiw, Tony Basilio just said on his show, "If Tony Vitello leaves for the San Francisco job, it is because he wants to take a MLB job...it won't be Danny White's fault."

He immediately followed it up by saying what I said earlier...that Danny White picking at him, slapping his hand, and allocating NIL funds elsewhere aren't helping Tennessee's cause.

Just want to put that out there to help squash the narrative (not aimed at you, ZJC) that Basilio solely believes the Vitello-White rift is the main issue at play in CTV's decision.

Where did I say run him off? Lol. I only watch baseball because of Tony V & TN. I could careless about the sport as a whole its boring to me outside of TN games so if he leaves I'll go back to not watching 🤷‍♂️. But if im TN im giving him a blank check. But go off. I just simply said have facts straight. You hated on women's basketball and didnt even know they had won 2 nattys lol how you gonna hate on a team/sport you obv dont watch.

There is a HUMONGOUS misconception behind the idea of non-revenue sports. Yep. Not a lot of depth in this disagreement in general. Needless to say, losing Tony would have a huge impact on the Vols BRAND across the board.
