Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Saying Heup should be fired is about as bad as OSU fans wanting Ryan Day gone last year. Not worth entertaining. It’s certainly fair to criticize where applicable though.

You ain't Lyle, but as fans we should be disappointed when the team mistakes cost us wins against rivals. Totally valid.

Believe me the staff & players are very aware that THEY blew those 2 games. This mindset that they don't care is crazy to me. You don't put the hours of work into playing the game if you don't care. Some do it for money, some for the sport, some for their teammates and some for the game...but all of them are doing it for something they care about.

You cant stop tempo, that’s when our offense is at its best-when we are going warp speed. Last year I think our offense wasnt as good because we didnt run the tempo, and on Saturday we didnt run tempo as much which is part of the reason why our offense struggled
You can only go as fast as your personnel allows. Neither Joe or Nico was football smart enough or could read pre snap defenses good enough to go that fast. You can try to make the fat kid run fast in the 100m but it ain't gonna happen.

Good god, i'm with some of you all. This bs about Huepel's coaching, is pissing me off.

We are the 2nd youngest team in SEC, our QB up and left us. He's put us in a position to be relevant. Many has written us off.

I'm not saying dont be competitive, I'm not even saying change your expectations. I'm saying we have a great Coach, who does things right way. We have an aces recruiting class, and just signed Adidas. Porthole will be live in Dec.

Every clown with a social media account needs to stand the **** down.

And trust me, I carried Bank's water for years. I farred him five times in that game.

We’ve got to push forward with Heup and see how he does with the ‘26 class. He needs at least another 3 seasons IMO, unless the wheels completely fall off.

With that said, he needs to look at position coaches and demand better. We’ve got to get better at the fundamentals. Better clock management, catching balls, fewer penalties, bad snaps at the worst moments. We weren’t out talented Saturday, we were the team that made more mistakes. Every time we were about to gain momentum, we made backbreaking mistakes.

Perhaps, but you think it helps achieve any of those objectives to gripe openly about it mid season?

We’ve done a pretty good job of exposing our weaknesses over the last three games. And we have yet to prove ourselves against a quality opponent. So I’m not too shocked. In fact, I’m more shocked they didn’t drop us to 20-25. I’m content with 17th.
Exactly. Anyone wondering why we dropped that much, did you watch the game? Did you think we looked like a top 15 team?

Jack…don’t act like you weren’t openly griping about stuff mid-game this weekend. We all know it doesn’t fix anything, but it’s therapeutic.

Just a few fans.

I farred Tim Banks this weekend.

Sorry, should have clarified.

I was talking about the same VN “Fans” melting down are the same ones saying 8-4 would be a good season this year and Bama and Alabama was going to be brutal.

Was not even talking about media talking idiots.
I honestly thought we would be 6-1 right now. And we should be. Make a dang field goal and you are. I didn’t think we would beat Bama. And it’s not because of coaching (although that call at the end of the half was bad and likely cost us), but the SEC wouldn’t let us win. And we saw how the officiating was.

Such a stupid take. There are minor changes that need to take place outside of firing Tim banks.
Agreed. Heupel can win a championship and become elite by changing a few things:

1. Get disciplined. Self assess and clean it up.

2. Clock management

3. Get a true play caller again and focus on head coaching more which would likely fix number two.

4. Few changes to staff

I love the offense and the problems it creates for other teams. It literally can’t be stopped. We mostly stop ourselves. And Heupels teams never quit. No matter how bad they could be playing, they fight til the end.

I’m just not seeing a path to the playoffs for us. We will drop another one, probably two. Just zoom out and look at the cross section of this team.

But college football is funny. Hope I’m wrong.
The path is to win 5 in a row. I don’t see us doing that either, but the path is there. We’ll likely be favored in all of them, except maybe Vanderbilt (strange as it sounds).

Oh, I cannot be the voice of reason. I was snowman-in-Miami, melted. Think the difference is openly criticizing the battle captain. Think a bit of awareness is needed for those that are insinuating, theorizing about Huepel's future.

1. Not all of this is false. I agree that, at some point soon, Heup is going to have to demand more out of his assistants or make some tough decisions. Also, Heup has got to re-adjust his approach to match his current squad. This isn’t a “lean on the defense” team the way it has been the last two years.

2. However. here is the list of “championship” head coaches currently employed in college jobs:
- Kirby Smart
- Ryan Day
- Dabo Swinney

That’s the list. Everyone else is in the same boat as Heup, including the guy we just lost to. Bama fans said this same stuff about DeBoer when they looked like absolute garbage against, what has turned out to be, a pretty bad FSU squad. Now they’re a national title favorite.

This is the new reality of college football. Sometimes you’re gonna look bad because rosters are thinner, rosters are closer in talent level across the league, and it’s hard to play A-level games week-in and week-out. And I think it’s going to be the case, going forward, that “championship teams” grow throughout the season and get hot at the right time, instead of dominating from start to finish, the way it used to be.
Exactly. For all of football history it has been for good teams, you win at home against good teams, you lose on the road to good teams. Great teams beat everyone, everywhere. People need to get a grip on reality. Of course you should be unrealistically optimistic going into every game, that's fun fandom. But you also have to be grounded in reality, your probably going to lose to a potential national title contender at their house.

I don’t see anyone who is as good as us the rest of the way. We would beat ourselves which is entirely possible. But no one is as good as UGA or Bama and you should have beat UGA. And who knows with Bama if you don’t have the pick six.

Playing well, looking like a top 10 team and beating OU, UF and Vandy all by 14-17 points and every one else by 21+.

I don’t think all that will happen but if it does we have a shot.

With how our schedule set up this year it would kinda be disappointing imo.

Weird take...I think the schedule actually got worse for us than preseason predictions.

We all knew Georgia/Bama would be tough.

But Vandy is a top 10 team right now, OU is top 15. Miss State was undefeated until we beat them. Hogs may be the best 2-5 team in the country...lost at Ole Miss by 6, at Memphis by 1, at TN by 3 and vs A&M by 3... other than Notre Dame where the wheels fully fell off they've competed with everyone they've faced and have a legit shot (if Green stays healthy) of finishing the season winning 5 straight.

Definitely an offseason discussion, regarding assistants. Changing back to the 2022 “attack, attack, always attack” approach for this specific team is a now discussion.

My biggest point though is that I watch really good coaches, even Kirby, do dumb stuff every weekend. Sometimes inexplicable stuff. Concluding that Heup isn’t a “championship coach” because he makes some bad calls or sometimes the team looks bad is just shortsighted stupidity, IMO.
Nobody mentions the games we win that have poor coaching decisions during the game. I have never watched or been part of a game that the the coach or I didn't make stupid decisions.

I’m with you for the most part
What do we do with CWM
He has talent
The guys get better and he picks guys out of the portal really well at the Cb position
He’s plucked two first round talents the last 2 years which honestly is impressive as hell

Inge has talent coming in and young freshman talent so he’s doing pretty damn good also I think.. we will see how much they progress next year

Safety is bad and that’s the damn DC position he coaches

Offensively I think we are getting better each year and guys are progressing really well

I know CJH is to blame for game management but I also think the plays he calls have options that the QB controls with what he sees at the line of scrimmage

I wish we kicked the FG but I’m glad we went for the TD at the same time bc I do like the aggressiveness of going for it

If we score we’re having a different conversation today I think

There are no elite teams in college football anymore.

Nation Champions will have 1-3 losses from here on out.

Heupel has plenty of flaws, but so does literally every coach. The national champion coach last year almost got fired.

We have sucked for nearly 20 years.

Heupel is still a top-15 coach and the best we can do. He does need to improve, but it is an absolute blessing to have him.

Yeah feel good about winning at home and Florida...hopefully we at least break the Florida curse.
