Here‘s the deal….Fall rosters aren’t restricted. They just have to get down to 34 by December 1st. I do believe DW was ticked when he learned UT’s roster was at 43 in August. I’ve heard rumors of 3 approved DSAs so that would mean a final roster of 37.

Do I believe that DW and CTV have clashed on Fall rosters and % of rev share? Absolutely. Do I think CTV would rather ask for forgiveness than for permission? Absolutely. Do I believe that DW is a stiff, arrogant bureaucrat who doesn’t like to be questioned or challenged by his subordinates? Absolutely. Do I believe CTV has been incredibly frustrated with DW? Absolutely. Do I think CTV and Jimmy Sexton would entertain an offer by the Giants regardless of his relationship with DW? Absolutely.

Why would DW care what the fall roster is as long as it's 37 by 12/1?

Essentially, UT is paying for 6 to 9 extra players that will not be part of the team for the following season. With the House Settlement, Athletic Dept are slashing budgets and cutting costs whenever necessary. Plus, DW is a stingrent rule follower and likely wanted the roster at 34 or 37 on August 1st.

Cost-of-living calculator makes less difference and less accuracy as you go up in the brackets. A person earning professional sports salaries isn't going to be spending the bulk of their salary paycheck-to-paycheck. Even if you go extravagant with your spend, the big difference in cost at that bracket is in real estate. So say you're spending for a very expensive house in Knoxville and your annual spend is somewhere over $1 million, but you do the same and your annual spend is $2 million. That $5.85 million gives you $4.85 million for wealth accumulation in Knoxville, and that $8 million gives you $6 million for wealth accumulation in San Francisco, with the same investment options in both states.

This is why the cost-of-living difference isn't a huge deal when it comes to these high-end contracts. Especially with NFL players who may only seasonally live in their team's city.

The best coach on campus is the freaking baseball coach who was not hired by DW. The second best coach on campus, Rick Barnes, was not hired by DW. The third best coach on campus, Karen Weekly was not hired by DW either.
