Napier fired

Man I don’t understand all the love for Franklin on here. Guy has proven he can’t win the big game.

Part of the appeal is you know you are going to get a competitive team that in large part will win the games you should while being a toss up to most likely loss in the big games. This was the first year where Franklin lost games he had no business losing.

Franklin in large part is an annual 10 win floor as a coach. Considering how many openings there are and will be, some schools won’t get their homerun young and hot name. Ending up with Franklin who is more likely to go 10-2 as a floor will be a major get for some school.

I actually think we are going to make a run to 10 wins and win out.

There is going to be a lot of consolidation with the teams above us just in the SEC alone.

OU beating Ole Miss to get back in the top 10 as they come to Neyland will be a big first step
I do think we beat Kentucky and Oklahoma. I’m actually more confident about beating Vanderbilt at home than I am about going down to the swamp and winning. Something about that game down there..

I want to believe you but not sure what kind of changes you can make mid-season to improve things. We have no replacements for the linebackers and DBs and don't see Heuple changing his O style at this point.

Agree on the FL game. That swamp curse has been hard to break. And it seems that every team so far that has changed coaches mid-season the team has played better. UAB has been bad this season, fired their coach and knocks off Memphis Sat.

The pivot game for 10-2 is the Florida game. We haven’t lost in Neyland in over 4 years to a school not named Georgia. Oklahoma and Vandy won’t win in Neyland. Those are wins 6 and 7. NM State will be 8 and Kentucky will be 9. Don’t fall for the tough game last night against Texas. That was a very vanilla offense with Arch they played.

It all comes down to the Swamp on getting to 10 wins.

I always believed Kiffin hired back to UT would have amounted to a good story of prosperity forged through trial and error, forgiveness and redemption. ESPN would have gobbled up that story and found a love for TN (which never hurts), and frankly speaking—I think he would have done better at Tennessee than what we are seeing. Perhaps I’m wrong. I am absolutely not complaining with the last 4 years and am not at a point of complaining too much this year. Season isn’t over yet, and I want it to work out for Josh and company, his kids, our program and our fans.
Sorry, I am big into the FOOL ME ONCE doctrine!

I don't think you get any in the first group, and possibly not the 2nd group.

There are good coaches at lower levels.
I can almost 100% assure you it'll be someone from that list or someone I didn't mention of that "caliber".The UF insiders have essentially confirmed that this won't be Stricklin's hire, and he'll just be the mouthpiece who announces it for whomever the big boosters decide on. They want a "splash".

The fear here is do they get James Franklin? It's no secret that Lane Kiffin has been after it or Saban coming out. I do not like this news.

Why would there be fear they get Franklin? His offenses are pretty uninspiring against inferior competition. He was pretty much gifted home field advantage in the playoffs last season

My list (of realistic candidates) is Kiffin, Brohm, or Golesh. One of those three.

I'm throwing up in my mouth if it's Drink or Key.

Unless it’s absolutely stupid money which I can’t see Fl spending Kiffin will just get a bump.

I think the pressure cooker that Florida is makes Brohm a program stabilizer there.

Now, i don’t remember who I picked for Fl to hire but Golesh is the hire Tennessee fans don’t want at Fl. That creativity, with those resources, and the players they have would be dangers from the beginning.

Let's put it like this

If there was a bridge barrier that had the literal definition of a Medicare coach (Butch Jones) and on the opposite side was an excellent coach (Kirby Smart), James Franklin would be right there in the middle

Slightly better than Butch Jones, definitely a good hype man, culture builder, can get you playing competitive each year but not elite
I like that and completely agree.
To me though, thats what we have now.
I want to find that guy that pays the toll so we can get a little closer to the other side.

Love the analogy!!!

What's with all of these mid season firings? Do the AD's think this will activate a magic wand that will instantly transfer to wins? Time will tell.
These schools can’t afford to wait after Penn State made the first move. There are only so many homerun type hires to go around and now it’s going to become an arms race for the top candidates.

I’m surprised Auburn hasn’t pulled the plug on Freeze yet.

It's the NIL and Portal age.
Take a look at the NFL in the few years prior to the salary cap and bargaining agreements.
There were a lot of coaches and coordinators cut loose mid-season.

Hmmm...Florida AD needs to get this one right or he's next.

- Gotta at least kick the tires on Golesh. He knows the SEC, and recruits well.
- Don't think UF would want a "recycled" coach at this point. They need a new name with a winning record.
- Kiffin's probably not interested, but he might use the UF opening to get a raise.
- Franklin is an obvious choice. Probably love to come back south, and he knows the SEC.
- Be surprised if Brohm left UL.
- Maybe the OC at a school like tOSU, Oregon, Bama, or Indy?

No idea, but there are a lot of dominos (jobs) down in P4. Gonna be fun to watch the scramble to see who can get who first.

Edit: Be very surprised if it's an NFL OC/DC. What with the complications of NIL and the Portal, you'd be a fool to leave the relative stability of the NFL for this crap.

Guess I'll grab one of those State Fair sized bags of popcorn on the way home tomorrow.

He's quickly gone from my "in case of emergency" guy, to the guy I might secretly get most excited about if we hire. Y'all have no idea about the shape of that USF program when he took over. It was beyond flatlined we he got there, and he literally flipped the switch overnight.

Not to mention looking at Tennessee without tinted glasses it seems that Golesh was the reason Hooker was good and not Huepel.
