Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I would have to watch again, but if you use your last TO even with 20 seconds left, you have can still lose out on a FG with the play call. Pretty sure we ran a play with 13 seconds left. We still had plenty of time. But you save your last TO by throwing it n first down. By running and getting stopped, you have to use it.
It was 2nd and like 7 we ran up the middle bishop gets tackled a yard or 2 short with 29 seconds. We hurry and run again bishop gets the first and we call TO with 9 seconds. A TO with 29 seconds and we coulda ran for the first had a fresh set with 24 or so seconds. That’s enough for 3 full plays and then a FG

Not saying we didnt hurt ourselves, but acting like the refs are golden boys is insane. We should always be calling out the poor officiating, same as poor coaching and execution. Calling out the officiating for what it is and a few people always want to jump to the front of the line and be a white knight for them.
I would certainly not fall in that category. I felt like going into the game it would be egregious and just didn’t see it last night. We just made a bunch of mistakes that are impossible to overcome on the road against a good team. I’ve witnessed some screw jobs, I just don’t think officiating was the reason we lost last night.

Him being 3rd best in the SEC at Ole Miss since he’s been there while winning a NY6 bowl should make everyone nervous. If he goes to a better job then yeah it should make you nervous. We’re 2-2 against the damn gators the last 4 years as it is… their record during that time?
6-7 - 38-14 L
6-7 - 38-33 W
5-7 - 29-16 L
8-5 - 23-17 OT W. That isn’t exactly great as it is now. They get a legitimate coach and the odds that looks worse heighten
Since we no longer play them every year, I wouldn't say "scared" for us personally. but UF would be a real player.

OM is winning at a high level, consistently, with merely ~top 25 talent. Give em at UF top-10 level of talent, which is not hard at all in that state, and they would be a serious force to reckon with.

Then he should’ve thrown at the defender’s feet or out of the end zone. Whichever he had access to. And live to fight another play.

I’m not saying it was a good play call. But it was the worst decision Joey has made and worst pass Joey has thrown in a Vols uniform. Absolutely can’t have that there from a 24 year old experienced QB.

And I’m a huge Joey fan. Thought he battled his ass off and all the confidence in the world in him moving forward. But that was bad bad. Far from the only bad play in the game for Vols, just speaking to that specific play.
Yes like it’s been said the ball shoulda been in the stands. There was no opportunity for a TD there

Not mindboggling at all when you consider a single play was worth 14 points.

And a safety might show as a small negative loss in yardage, but a big play on the scoreboard. A turnover + giving away 2 points.

Those 2 plays are the entire game flip flopped in a nutshell. Should've been a nailbiter till the end, with the Vols having every chance to win. We absolutely went toe-to-toe with Bama in Tuscaloosa in a way we haven't since 2009, but folks only looking at the scoreboard won't see that.

Officiating was way worse in the Arky game tbh. There was truly only a couple of questionable calls last night and they went against both teams. Was actually expecting it to be worse than it actually was.

Coaching and execution were piss poor in all facets.
Not to mention the 500 1-yard penalties we got, the officiating was terrible, I think specifically in the 1st quarter. It wasn't as bad as expected, but it didn't need to be with us blasting rounds into our own feet all night long. Proper officiating and we don't give up that safety. That alone could change the whole game.

A lot of you are speculating about Lane to Florida, but I’m not sure he’d want that right now. Assuming the rumors are true and he wants out of Oxford, the best job for him in terms of an immediate ability to win and have success is probably Penn State. Florida’s entire athletic program is a 💩 show. He’d almost be taking a rebuild job all while having to deal with the back room chaos that’s unfolding there.

PSU or FSU if they come open would be crazy not to go after lane IMO
He would be really good at FSU with a much easier schedule

Florida is a tough place right now
They seem to not have all their Is dotted and Ts crossed
Bunch of chiefs and not enough Indians type deal
That program should never be bad in todays college football with the recruiting base they have same with FSU and Miami

Hope everybody is finding some peace today. Like everybody else this one is lingering in a bad way for me. I think that play call to end the half has replaced the Pig Howard fumble into the endzone as the all time worst single game defining moment that I’ve seen. Pig was a mistake, but we called that play. The whole sequence of time management to force that passing down to then bunch everybody and try to spread at the snap…what in the actual hell!?

Sorry, I know it’s been said a hundred times but I really just needed to get that out of my head so I can move on. Love you guys! Peace!
Warning: stop reading if on suicide watch or particularly squeamish.

There have been plenty others (mostly occurring at bama or uf and under the butch tutelage), just as mind boggling, and my memory only really stretches back to the beginning of this millennium: 01 squib kick and subsequent defensive collapse agaisnt uga, loss to lsu/saban in 01 seccg marks the beginning of the end of the 90s dynasty, end of game fumbled out back of end zone against bama in 03, eric ainge back to back bad ints to lose seccg, losing to Wyoming at home 13-7 , Terrance Cody field goal block, lose to uk 10-7 first time in 27 years, 13 men on field on would be game winning play at lsu, OU and arkansas 4th quarter comebacks allowed in neyland in 2015, uf go ahead td throw in swamp against prevent def at end of 4th quarter to take lead with 1:30 left, uf Hail Mary pass at end of game to win it in the swamp, loss to ga state lowest moment in program history, jg fumble at goalline trying to make a one score game that got returned for a touchdown at bama. I’m sure there are more but I got depressed and exhausted typing this out so I’m done.

I’m with you brother. This one hurts. They all hurt. It’ll continue to hurt for a while. Let’s hope the team can overcome it and achieve their goals for the season. Oh how I long again for a day where we’re the favorite in that game and not fighting the refs, a more talented roster, and our own decision making all at once.

Switch him to safety. He was a 5 star safety and what Ga wanted him for. We got him as a 4 star WR cause we said he could play O. If not, cut him and take the money and get a real safety. SHOW ME THE MONEY.
Fulmer changed many players' positions back in the day. So did Majors. I can't think of any that Heupel has changed.
