This really isn’t a risky move on Tony’s end because he knows he can go right back to college if he can’t hack it in MLB and have almost any job he wants.

Hard to say not "remotely close". We finished in the Top 12 in the country in football, and the Top 8 in the country in Mens BB, and Top 16 in the country in Women's BB. Like....we are good all around man, and have been close to winning championships in other sports. But baseball was the one who did it.

I am sure that Danny White will do all he can to keep CTV. But sometimes, it isn't all about money. Sometimes its about wanting to see what you're capable of on a different level with a different level of challenge. TV may want that for himself. He may be tired of the constant travel and recruiting. If he stays, we would love to have him. If he leaves, it isn't gonna be because DW didn't do all he could. TV loves UT, but he may have other goals he wants to work towards. I'm a Tennessee fan, but I'm a Tony Vitello fan, and whatever team he coaches for, if it is a pro team, I'm gonna be a fan of. He is a good dude and has been nothing but great for our university.

Tony is not spending the next 30 years of his career in the majors. This definitely ends with him returning to college baseball at some point, which is what makes this entire thing even more frustrating. We’ll have to watch him likely take over at Arkansas.

It didn’t receive the appropriate prioritization and resources from the contractor and TN dropped the ball in “not riding herd” on managing the contractor. No excuse for LNS not being 100% completed by Feb 2026.

That's not DW's fault. Every, single, contractor in Knoxville that works on UTK construction projects goes over budget and takes more time than promised. It's the way the bidding system is set up that hamstrings how contractors are chosen.

The only control is that F&S can blacklist firms.... then those firms dissolve and form new ones which aren't blacklisted even though we know what they're doing.

The bidding system is forced on the school by the state. And I wouldn't be shocked if there's folks in Nashville who have financial stakes in some of these construction companies.

Usually the high profile jobs get done in time and it's the academic buildings or beautification projects that drag on, but this happened to the track facilities too.

I agree with your 2nd paragraph, but we really aren't close to competing for a natty in any of the other major sports. Got our doors blown off in the fb playoffs and in the elite eight.

I had a typo that I just corrected. I meant to say “no excuse for LNS not being 100% completed by Feb 2026”. The original plans called for a completion date of Feb 2025. They will miss it by 2 years.

That makes more sense. I was surprised when I was at LNS last season. I was thinking “this is all” that’s been completed so far.

Fair point but how did MS State’s stadium get built on time (19 months) without missing any deadlines and $1.5M under budget while still playing at the stadium being totally rebuilt? Where there’s a will, there’s a way and someone at UT is in charge of working with the Project Managers at the construction firm. I don’t buy the “it’s always delayed and over budget” excuse. No way this should take 3 years to finalize at a cost of >$105M. Someone dropped the ball.

How did we get here? Based on reports out of San Fran, the frontrunner, Nick Hundley, from the Rangers organization and a second yet unidentified person backed out of a deal/withdrew their name, making CTV the Giants 3rd option. Damn! Still hoping they have to go to their 4th choice.

TV is getting a new $100M stadium !!!!! You can't get it all. Plus, it apparently didn't hurt us (NIL) since we got who we wanted in portal. We have one heck of a team for this upcoming season regardless of who is coaching in the dugout.

Being constantly delayed and overbudget isn't an excuse to justify LNS being the same. It's just a fact that the university has been dealing with these companies for 15+ years and it's the same story every time. Maybe I could add I worked at F&S as a student intern and sat in these meetings and listened to the staff complain about the situation they're stuck in.

They have punishments in place (fines for taking more time and going over budget) but they usually get warnings first.

Yep. Trey Wallace of Outkick last night said he had heard from people inside the program that they believe Tennessee baseball will be fine if Tony moves on, and if that’s true and the attitude of the decision-makers in the building, we have problems.

Your right. I work with new construction home builders and builders for both new homes, townhouses and multifamily apartments and condos. My company delivers and installs all the appliances for our customer partner Electrolux appliances. We work with Lennar Homes, DR Horton, Adams Homes and a bunch of others on the multifamily projects.

Builders get fined and money deducted if not finished with project on time and can rack up fines or charge backs every week or month that goes by and not finished. You would be amazed how fast these new multifamily 4 story apartments or even hundreds of new homes goes up and finished so 3 years just for a renovation is crazy slow.

Heck, we get warnings normally first just for dropping our trash (cardboard boxes, styrofoam, plastic film) as an example in the dumpsters on site but if my delivery/install teams continue to throw or leave trash, we get fined or chargebacks for each incident. And we have a set schedule for deliveries and installs, I can't just say we will finish in a couple of week or months later.

To think of it from a very positive....we're the first school ever to have an MLB team poach our coach.

Let that sink in..did anyone EVER think in their lifetime an MLB team, much less one that has been as successful as the Giants, would want our baseball coach?
