Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

How we feeling? I missed the game entirely. Didn't have a good feeling about it anyway, but from the stats it looks like we outgained them, but struggled to push the ball through the air.

The 99 yd interception is clearly the difference of the entire game. Sucks bc the scoreboard makes it look a lot worse.
We could have won that game but bad luck, bonehead plays, and home cooking had other plans

A bit silly.

Can we be frustrated but not also admit that you shouldn’t judge an entire defense / defensive philosophy over a true Fr - who wouldn’t be on the field with a healthy defensive backfield - not wrapping up a ball carrier?
He consistently does that. Got no problem criticizing freshman anymore, they’re semipro now; comes with the territory.

Not giving up on him. He is obviously not confident in himself because he’s a bean pole and takes a few offseasons to overcome those genetic dispositions of a slight frame.

Tennessee is good not great, I don’t like the 9 game conference schedule just more chances to lose. Eventually they’ll accept the current standard or make some adjustments to it. White doesn’t strike me as a stupid person or AD. They added these talent fees jacking up ticket prices to some of the highest in the country. Eventually that will have to carry some higher expectations with it. On the other hand it could always be worse most definitely as we see around the country. Could be better could be worse

One more thing. Heupel has no confidence in our DC. Want to know how I know? Because he plays every end of half the same way. He is trying to take away remaining time on the clock so the other team can't go 75 yards in 1 minute to score. He has become predictable in his playcalling as a result. We run clock and then put our offense in terrible situations related to clock late in the half. Is causing us to lose points and last night became a 10–14-point swing. Look at our games this year.

- Against Arkansas we were conceding to halftime, then Bishop ripped one and put us at midfield. Obviously, we seemed unprepared for that and failed to convert.

- MSST. Stopped Bothwell at MSST 28-yard line with 1:01 left on the clock. Didn't take a timeout????? Clock runs to 14 seconds, and they punt.

- Bama. 2nd and 10 from Bama 27 with 1:30 left in the half. We hand off to Thomas for a gain of 1 yard. We then allow 40 seconds to run before the next play????? This was defensive play calling. We were scared of leaving them any time on the clock prior to halftime. If he had confidence in his DC, this would not happen.

To compound the issue, we hand it off to Bishop and he is tackled at the Bama 5-yard line. I'm screaming "Timeout!" Nope. We allow 12 seconds to run and then hand it off again. This put us in the predictable situation and the pick-6. If Tennessee needs a stat guy to handle timeouts, I will do it for free. Just put me through the headset.

We are just a middle of the pack to lower half of the conference team this year. Is what it is. Accept it, adjust expectations and look forward to a decent bowl game this year.
I will never accept Vandy likely having a better season than us with half the talent.

We need to win out. If we miss the playoffs at 10-2 then so be it. But we have a bottom tier SEC schedule this year and have to take advantage. Next year will be brutal.

How do we know the strategy hasn’t been dictated to banks by heup? Banks doesn’t have full autonomy.

I hate to be negative but I don’t think there is a a snowball’s chance of winning out. I’m concerned that the team spirals, especially if Ag’s injury causes him further issue.

So...Heupel has built the program to the point where we can compete with anybody. The biggest issue that we have seen every single year under Heupel is that his teams are undisciplined. They have way too many self-inflicted wounds during games. We're not going to beat the top teams with any level of consistency if we can't figure out how to play smarter. I get the complaints about Banks, and I tend to agree with a lot of them, but I think the bigger issue is that the entire team makes too many stupid mistakes every game. With how tight things have become in college football, that's going to result in more losses. It's time for Heupel to really prioritize the fundamentals and just playing smart disciplined football.

Freshman against a rb that outweighs him by 40 lbs. yeah it could have been a better form tackle but it wasn’t the worst one on the night. So I guess I agree but hate that Redmond the freshman getting picked on, he’s only playing because two others are out and boo wasn’t expected to be in the lineup this season for most of fall camp.
No excuse for the piss poor effort.

Said several times at the end of last season--- Heup and Staff raised TN football up from the grave, but unless they make some hard decisions and big changes, we are just going to always be good, but never great... This staff is just not that good...

We can see this season with NIL, so many teams can be dangerous now by adding some $$ players to certain position groups, so the competition within the SEC is at a all time high across the conference. When would you be saying that Ole Miss and Vandy could most likely come into Neyland and whip us by double digits?

Heup has not adjusted or changed with the landscape, if anything, we saw last night (and the past two weeks) that he has regressed in year 5...

Unless he makes coaching changes, this is all we are ever gonna be, give or take one or two games... So while others make the adjustments and changes, we will just tread water... Player development is stagnant.

Heup took the SEC off guard when he came in the first two seasons, playing upbeat, fast, aggressive football... now, well WTF is this...?

Mid level coaching is being painfully exposed now every week with really good talent, which is just pathetic at this point.

Ga game this season was our Arky game last season.

Heup can't coach on the road and then add in the corrupt officiating, and you have a perfect disaster, which is what played out last night.

Hope the team can recover, as I said last week, we are looking at L's with OK, FL, and Vandy (can't say Candy anymore)... HELL, with the way KY played yesterday and the fact we are on the road, they will probably whip our ass too.

Will be interesting to see what happens to the recuits we have right now, especially Keys and how Georges opinion of us may shift.

Very disappointing second half of the season based on how we started the first half...

I think we will hear something today about Joey and some sort of injury and I wouldn't be all surprised to find out he has a concussion... Of course clearly that doesn't matter and he will be able to shake it off like Jam Miller

Danny White is never going to stop fleecing the fanbase for money. College football, as a whole, is driving the game into the ground over greed. That will never stop until people stop tuning in and ad revenue goes down, which will likely never happen.
