It seems we are a poor tackling team year after year. Maybe last year was an exception. I have no stats to back up the assertion . . . Just what it appears to me. A coaching friend told me this is one of UT’s worst teams (he has seen) in the tackling department.

Why?

Is it bad / worse across all of college football, and we only see it for the team we follow? Or are we, comparatively, worse or as bad as we seem during frustrating losses?

I mean this when I say this and I would absolutely get obliterated out on the field, especially at my age, but I can guarantee you that I would give more effort in attempting to tackle then what I witnessed tonight. It's hard to not imagine that they were just simply meaning to not tackle tonight it was that bad.

With the officiating as bad as it was on display tonight and the absolute zero effort to bring a defender on the ground makes me wonder if the gambling angle has infested college football

Compromising contact and tackling in practice due to depth shows. Can’t expect to do things in a game well if you don’t practice them.

I remember back in the days of watching the Johnny Majors show every Sunday after a big game. He and Mr. John Ward would roll the game film. While the highlights were playing coach Majors would almost invariably say at least once, while breaking down the film, " no BLOCKING, no TACKLING, no PLAYING!"

Damn I'm getting old!

First, this is not the worst tackling UT team however they are bad.

Tackling is a combination of good technique and strength. Open field tackling is very difficult which requires technique over strength. Once you get any part of a uniform which at worst you aim for if you cannot form tackle, you grab it with a fist. Shoulder nudge tackling can leave you looking like a fool.

Looks like too many players are content throwing a shoulder instead of hitting and wrapping up. Obviously there’s instances where throwing a shoulder is all you can do but there’s way too much of it. Also the missed tackle on the pick 6 killed us. I haven’t watched it again but it seemed he had a pretty good angle on him but was waiting for the bama player’s juke before he tried to tackle him?

I don't think we lump a guy chasing to try to make a tackle on a pick 6 to the bad tackling on defense.

Yeah we were hoping the player would get enough of him to bring him down but it was a long shot. It was almost obvious once it got intercepted it was all green grass.

All he had to do was push him out of bounds and the half is over! Absolutely no excuses for not getting that done.

Worst tackling i have ever seen! Ty Redmond at the goal line was embarrassing! That was like pee wee football! 4 ot 5 missed tackles multiple times! I can't understand anyone at this level looking that bad!
People keep saying they see potential in him. I get he’s a frosh but am I missing something? Lol

The lack of tackling is so consistent it seems like it's just not coached. Just like DBs committing pass interference and not looking back for the ball.
