Road to Playoffs IMO - Post Bama

Need to figure out how to be the best in conference before talking about playoffs.

The playoffs will have multiple SEC and B1G teams - don't need to be the best - just need to be among the best.

I mean OSU won it all last year and they were not even top 2 in the B1G. When the playoffs start, who wins will be about (1) Favorable matchups and (2) what team is playing their best football. Has nothing whatsoever to do with being the best in a conference anymore. All that does is get you a place at the table.

Ironically that was our best sec defensive performance if you negate the pick 6. That’s lost in the disaster of last night. If we play that defense and the offense doesn’t throw 99 yard pick 6s we can win out. That’s a fact.

Go ahead and name them, we will be standing by. Texas Tech who everybody has been raving about just lost to ASU, who got beat by MSU. Memphis, Tulane, Cinncy, USF, and UVA are all 6-1. Do you think they are all better then UT?
No need to stand by. Check the rankings Monday. Then check them again after we drop another game, which we likely will. Then you’ll have your verified teams better than us. You’ll be able to take it from them, not me. Maybe you’ll believe them.

My opinion has been that 10-2 will get Tn into playoffs if the two were UGA and Bama. Timing is everything. Tn could’ve won either/both of those games and be knocked out at 10-2 with late losses to anyone left on our schedule. This is it. Three or more losses is still obviously possible, but for playoff hopes, win out and TN will be there

Hard to win against good teams when outscoring your opponent is all you can do. I have continued to try to convince myself our D is not that bad but AL exposed everything bad about them last night. They are the liability for this season for many reasons. Changing DC's IMO would be the correct move after the season.

I have legitimate concerns about Diego Pavia against the UT defense, even in Neyland.

I actually thought our defense played better than our offense last night. The calls by Joey H kept getting our quarterback hit and produced the pick six. We were obviously capable of running on them, but we kept throwing those idiotic passes straight to the sideline for a loss.

Need to win out, obviously.

Probably need uga and bama to win out for sake of our resume. Need our opponents on schedule to win as many games as possible while dropping games to us or others enough to not beat us out for spots. It would be tremendous for msu, ark, vandy, Kentucky, uf to cause some chaos with the teams currently slated ahead of us.

If 4 SEC teams make it (only 3 made it last year: Texas, uga, Tennessee), need one of ole miss or tamu to fall short, preferably in a late season collapse type of way or bad losses. If only 3 make it in, we are a long shot.

Bama, uga, 2 of ole miss/tamu/Tennessee (IF 4 SEC make it in)

Others to fall:

Ole miss (UNLIKELY):
Needs to lose at least 1 (if late in season or to really bad team), or maybe 2.
- at Oklahoma or against Florida at home look like only realistic possiblities

TAMU (50/50 Likelihood):
Needs to lose AT LEAST 2, and timing probably matters. Late season would be best, or losses to bad teams.
- possibilities include: lsu, mizzou, Texas

Oklahoma (LIKELY):
Needs to lose to us AND 1 of:
- ole miss, bama, Mizzou, lsu

Texas (LIKELY):
Needs to lose 1
- uga, Vandy, ark, tamu, msu

Vandy (LIKELY)
Needs to lose to us
- other potential losses to Mizzou, Texas, Auburn, kentucky

Mizzou (LIKELY):
Need to lose 1
- Possibilities: Vandy, Tamu, OU, ark
We don't need to be in the playoffs.

exactly...you won't mention because you know that statement won't hold up when actually looked at..

Point being, this isn't a playoff contender team. Took overtime to beat an unranked team. Barely avoided losing to Arkansas. Lost to UGA, should've won i will say, but still a loss. Got embarrassed by the gumps. Vandy is playing really good football right now and given Tennessee's history with Florida, could easily lose 2 more games. A playoff team wouldn't be worried about playing Kentucky this weekend.

Sure will hold up, then you’ll just come up with another excuse for Heup. You’re just saturated with mediocrity Ricky and that’s okay. Everyone lives different.

Yesterday was ROUGH, but the truth is that we have only lost to 2 Top 10 teams—one by a FG in OT and the other at their place. The flip-side of that is we also haven’t beaten anyone of note. We need Oklahoma & Vandy to continue to play well so we’ll have 2 top 25 victories. 10-2 and there is still a chance we make it.

As I see it, 4/6 of these teams will be in the CFP:

Alabama
Georgia
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
Tennessee
Vandy

Realistically, Alabama, Georgia, and A&M are almost locks at this point, leaving only the 4th spot open. We need Ole Miss to fall to Oklahoma next Saturday, because I don’t see them losing another game on their schedule, and it helps us in common opponents.

If the season plays out like this, we have a chance:

1. Texas A&M: 12-0
2. Alabama: 11-1
3. Georgia: 11-1
4. Tennessee: 10-2
5. Vandy: 10-2
6. Ole Miss: 10-2
7. Oklahoma: 9-3

That makes our “best” losses & wins all in the top teams in the conference and we get in over 10-2 Ole Miss due to tougher schedule.

*than. And no, they aren't better *than us. But we aren't a championship caliber program, so that ain't saying much.

Vandy has no shot at a playoff.

Bama, UGA and A&M are locks and 2 of the 3 will be in the SEC title game

Ole Miss, us and Mizzou are the next tier and we have the most favorable remaining schedule

10-2 gets us in

Boomers are the mediocre generation for a reason...emotionally stunted babies

however, again you can't do it...which speaks for your actual conviction or lack thereof

lol you’re pretty far off with this “boomer” assumption. And as I said. You’ll see 14-15 in a black and white ranking tomorrow. But you won’t believe it and will make 137 excuses. Then when we drop another you’ll have more when we hit that 20 mark.

Mediocre isn’t a generation Ricky. It’s a mindset. And you full on embrace it.

If we win out, we are probably in the playoffs. The issue is that not a lot of us are confident this team can win out unless they start to fix their major glaring issues. We were lucky to survive Miss State.

IMO, that Georgia missed opportunity will bite us.
