Heupel Post-Game Press Conference

Just stop it. Refs were not the problem. We got man handled. We are not in the same league as Ala, Ga, Ohio state, plus many more. Our defensive line was sucking air tonight. Hands on the hips. Out of shape. Coach H is too soft on them. Plus the hurry up offense is killing us. Teams have adjusted to it. Need to learn how to pound the ball to the other team. We played men tonight. Just like we played men when we played Ohio state. Oklahoma and Vandy will be hard to beat.
Tennessee held their own at the line of scrimmage tonight. That's part of what makes the loss so exasperating. We tripped over ourselves all night in what should have been a winnable game.

I don’t recall if they were “late” or not. But those bama flags on us in general came out mighty quick. And our qb who was possibly suffering a neck injury was crushed and laying motionless for at least a couple seconds before the roughing late hit flag came in. That had me pretty irate.
To be clear, we carefully took aim and shot ourselves in the foot over and over. I put most of the blame on the offense. It just wasn't their night. It's a game of momentum and our offense was the opposite of complimentary.

Anyone that thinks we should have a defense good enough to allow our offense to make a 3 score(their fault) comeback on the road against Alabama simply has delusional expectations. I think Mike Matthew's drop on 3rd and long, that hit all 10 fingers, was the straw that broke the camels back. The D came out after half, forced a 3 and out, then recovered a fumble on the next drive. Make that catch and a FG makes it a 1 score game.

Getting ref-balled didn't cost us the game but I'll still call BS when I see it.

Was that the same series with the snap during play change? Because we were running passes then right after having rushed the ball down the field for a touchdown, which bama was seemingly ok with giving up, and I was really hoping we would just do that again. Actually seemed a pretty obvious choice while still in 3rd quarter and only down 10.

They don’t have to answer anything but we also should be asking them about it. Yeah we’re a field goal away from 6-1. We’re also two field goals away from 3-4 and being winless in SEC. That’s not a great place to be as a CFP contender hopeful.
in the sec......sure it is. could be texas with all the arch hype barely escaping ky. this isnt the old sec environment. these arent old times. we are winning again! we just had a college playoff experience. we're a constant top25 team plagued with injuries at very important spots, yet we not that 3-4 you mentioned.

Don't let them get to you Adam. Your post was a good one, a lot of excellent points made. AL exposed our team in every way. That's how a well disciplined team plays. Our guys could learn a few lessons from that. The D is just what it is, bad I don't see any improvement with that this season.

I am glad I am not the only one who thought we should have called the timeout with 25 seconds to go before the half. Once we were down to 9 seconds bama knew we weren’t running the ball but with more time they would have had to defend the run.

That play was a could have been a hero moment for Joey though. If that ball is thrown 3 more feet to towards the sidelines we are talking about what a great play call but it was thrown to the one spot it couldn’t be.

Like many coaching decisions, there’s often not a definite right or wrong. Time will tell which way would have worked out better but that’s 20/20 hindsight.

And it give fans something to complain about.

Marking the ball short multiple times on TN seemed intentional. When it comes to officiating, it’s been bad all over the SEC this year. I’m certain it’s a matter of time before some refs get tied to sports books in some way.
The way they refused to give us the garbage-time td or even review it was beyond suspicious given the betting lines

Our offense scored 9 points for them. Hard to beat Georgia School of Auto Body Repair much less Bama doing that.

This has nothing to do with the press conference, but do you realize we outrushed Alabama and they basically had to get cute all night to even run the football against the Vols. Why do you think they never attempted a game melting drive running the ball? Other than they didn't need to after we gave a big lead being a turnover machine is that they couldn't.

We lost because we were outcoached, and they played a lot cleaner football game. They were also very opportunistic and consistently made timely long 3rd downs.

I’m going to impersonate Marshawn Lynch as I respond to Heupel’s press conference. “Just hit him in the face”

If you ever say “out coached “ again, I’m going to slap you.
