Heupel Year 5

The consensus opinion of JH by people who don't see the world through orange glasses is he's a good coach, better than what we've had, but will never compete for championships and never move ahead of the elite teams. He's now 2-3 against AL, 0-5 against GA (2-2 against FL). And hasn't played for a championship. What say you?

we ain't got it. I'm shamefully disappointed at how we never show up when it matters most.

some will say "what about Bama in 2022?" and I say "what about south Carolina in 2022?"

some will say "we made the CFP last year" and to that I say "how did that go?"

some will say "look at the mess Heupel inherited" to that I say "that was five damn years ago and none of those players are here anymore"

we just don't ever seem to have what all these other teams have.

Im really starting to get James Franklin vibes all around. always the brides maid never the bride.

His offenses are good but he really needs to shake up coaching on defenses. We have had only one good defensive year (2024) and a lot of that was playing bad offenses. Ohio State's offense had no trouble against our defense.

Last years defense wasn't even that great we got torched against UGA and Ohio St. The schedule was just easier last year.

The consensus eh? Then why bother with a poll? Sounds like you've already got it all figured out.

We are an undisciplined team that is absolutely horrible at attention to the small details that championship teams take care of. It’s masked by loss plays on defense and chunk plays on offense. We are playing against teams coached by former college and in some case NFL head coaches. Our coach treats these jobs like an internship and it continues to bite him.

In truth, I wonder if the hurry up offense really works. It just seems to tire out our defenses in big games and causes us to lose bad.

We need to make some staff changes in the off season and get some defensive players in the portal

Honestly, our schedule this year has been easy. Only played 2 ranked teams, but still give up 38 a game in SEC play.

The Hype is an 8-4/9-3 coach with an occasional 10-2 season. Thats his ceiling.

I think we’ve seen his ceiling as a coach but wanting him fired is asinine

Heupel will never win a SEC Title here. Too flawed but he is an above average coach. His program is stagnating and he has hit his ceiling here.

Exactly. Not sure what Heupel's ceiling is but there aren't any world beater coaches waiting in the wings to come to Tennessee. The best coaches in CFB are locked down at major programs.

It's all about the defense. He has to get that figured out. Until he's able to consistently field a team that is a top 5 defense in the country year in and year out, you've seen the best you're gonna get out of Heupel.
