No, we don't. Not this year.

Disclaimer: I took Bama to win and cover, so you know what I'm about to say.

UT is 122 out of 134 FBS teams in PYAPG. And they're at Bama. Night game. Bama has hit its stride.

Bama won't miss, or need, Jam Miller in this one. Ty Simpson is going to carve the UT defense up.

It is what it is. UT might make this a close game on heart alone, but this is Bama's game to lose. And they won't.

9-3. Maybe 8-4. That's the absolute ceiling with this defense. Watch the ESPN bowl projections to get a jump on a good hotel room.

Fact is, we have half of the team to beat Alabama, or any other SEC team.

We have the offense. We need the defense.

Look at SEC head coaches. The good ones. They are what they made their name as. Saban was a DC. So was Smart. Kiffin is known for his offense. And so is Heupel. Bama and UGA were known for their defense. Ole Miss and UT for their offense.

The ones who win are those who find the guy on the other side of the ball that can match up. If you're looking for an SEC DC who knows how to play defense in the SEC, it's a short list. Schumann. Blake. White. Wommack. Gotta be a guy who gets the SEC; can recruit the SEC; and beat SEC offenses.

Tim Banks is not on that list.

And until Coach Heupel figures it out and commits to an SEC-caliber defense, UT is going to be a "maybe in, mostly out" team when it comes to the CFP.

The Ohio State game was a sign. Heupel never read it.

Anything UT wins at the Top 10 / CFP level will be because UT just outscored the opponent; not because the UT defense held them under their average.

Offense wins games, and defense wins championships.

I'm wrong a lot, but I'll go way out on a limb here and say that Bama covers, and UT loses at least one more because the defense couldn't stop the opposing offense when it mattered most.

We have half of what it takes to win the SEC, and beyond.

I don't know how Saturday will go but I totally agree that folks need to look at the team through the lens of what the Heupel has done. Saban is no longer there. Dooley, Pruitt and Jones are no longer here. We are even (2-2) with Heupel. He doesn't deserve to be saddled with the records of the prior coaches against Bama. He may be 3-2 or 2-3 after Saturday, but he has proven that he can take a team against Bama and win.

The portal and NIL are creating situations where a team can't hide top talent on their rosters keeping that talent from other teams.

But we play much better at home. I don't really recall but one game where we have played good on the road against a decent team, and that was against LSU a few years ago. All the rest of our road games we have not done well at all. If the Bama game was at home, I would pick us. But on the road we have to play much much better than we have so far.

I won’t. Like I say a lot, I’m wrong a lot. I’ve eat so much crow over the years that I’ve got tail feathers. And nothing would make me happier than to be wrong here. This is a play-in game for the playoff. Lose here, and UT’s chances are on life support.

I just don’t see UT winning here, for reasons I have been very clear on. But I’ll be here Sunday morning, win or lose.

When he proves that he can win a football game @ Saban Field, or Spurrier Field, that's when he'll get that monkey off of his back. And not until. Thems the rules...

Because hes a good back and he's all they have. They played a little differently when he went out Saturday. The backups cant pass block. I still think Tenn loses either way but they have a much better shot IMO without Miller.

I bet @LittleVol won’t come eat his crow. Called me out for saying we wouldn’t win.

How he didn’t see this team couldn’t hang is beyond me. We nearly lost to arky and MSU. Both terrible teams.

I’ll admit, I was wrong I said we lose by 14…
