'25 Recruiting Forum: Official TSIO Alabama vs Tennessee Pre-game/Game Thread

I want to be a homer and say we win but I don't see it. Our safety play is terrible. Boo Carter just jogs around out there and is a liability. Telander is slow. And as good as our offense can be sometimes, it also gets stuck in the mud quite a bit.

I want to be optimistic that our down field passing game will give them fits. Missouri played them close and they lack a down field passing game. So that could open some stuff up. But they also have arguably the best RB in the nation and it looks like our best RB will be dinged up.

Alabama might be without their best running back - but they still have a lot of talent in the backfield including 240lb Daniel Hill. We've especially struggled vs bigger backs.

I want to be a homer and say that after tough, physical games against UGA, Vandy, and Missouri in back to back to back weeks, that Alabama might be coming into the game limping a little. But I don't think there will be any kind of let down with it being a night game vs their biggest rival. They will be up for this game.

On the flip side, I'm am hopeful that we come into the game a little crisper than we did yesterday. I don't know why, and this could be fake news as I haven't looked it up, but I feel like we struggle coming out of bye weeks with Heupel.

Its sunday. I'm sure by Wednesday I'll be feeling better and by Saturday morning I'll be posting that we're gonna wtfa. But as I sit here right now, this feels like our second loss in what hopefully remains a 10-2 season. Losses to uga and alabama are two "good losses" by the way. Whatever that means.

The homer in me has emerged.

^^^^^^

Imo our D coordinator isn’t very good, and he isn’t a good S coach. He was made look good last year by an NFL laden DL and the best CB in the NCAA
All I can say is that he is very very respected by his peers...they would know if he sucks.

I agree about the safeties, but I think it is because he is stretched too thin, not because he doesn't know how to teach things.

I just think we are stuck with a few talented but raw inexperienced safeties who need a lot of development, and the poor pitiful Turrentine, the one thing you can say about him is...He ain't good, but he's slow.

Turrentine being so slow wouldn't be as big an issue if he didn't also get lost all the time...as long as he's been in they system he should at least know where to be and what to do....but he evidently doesn't.

I hate calling a dude out by name...but everybody knows who the weak links are.

Waking up this morning and it’s feels a little different then normal on Saturday mornings
This particular game does mean more than the other ones. You can feel it if you’re a Vol or Bama fan.
Kinda feels like it did in 22 and 24 if I’m being honest…..

Go Vols!!!!!!!

I want to believe this, but I’ve seen too many far less talented teams have lock down defenses with a great defensive coordinator.

I think he is calling the game the way he (and likely Heupel) thinks give them the best chance. The biggest problem I see how trash our zone defense is. I don’t disagree that when he calls zone, it’s the best call most of the time. It’s just how poor we are, and it’s obvious they aren’t being correctly taught what to do. I find it hard to believe that in 5 years none of our S or LB could figure out how to move in a zone defense.

So with that being said, we circle back to play calling. If they know we can’t stop a cold with our zone defense, is it REALLY the best option? Even if conventional thinking says it is?

Then look at the arkansauce game. They were GASHING is with the run and he spent the whole first half sitting back. When we started bringing more guys up we shut their run game down. What took so long?

I just don’t think he’s very good. Would be great for him to prove me wrong.

We agree on Turrentine. He SHOULD know where to be, and that’s at least partially on coaches too imo.

All I know is they were among the best last year....dude you can't rip them for bad players and not praise them for good players...that doesn't make sense.

Everybody besides us believes Tim Banks is a really good Coach....and we've been shown to be stupid a LOT over the years.

I just think we are stuck with bad personnel in a few spots this year and other teams are taking advantage of it.

And you keep on harping on this zone thing, and while I get it, I also know you would change your mind quick if we give up 2-3 big play TDs playing man, so I just don't know the answer to this. I just think Banks is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Line moved to Alabama -9.5
So hard for me to believe we are that disrespected. Sure hope Heup and staff are using this for even more fuel for tonight. I want to see us come out guns blazing to start the game on both sides of the ball, and then keep it there for 60 mins!!

Paul Finebaum can go screw himself.

"Well listen, I was born Tennessee and I went to Tennessee.... but I tried to get into Alabama and they wouldn't take me so I had to go to the next best school."
That explains a lot. I didn't know that.
