Kellie Harper to Missouri

At the volume of games we played against good teams, of course we're going to win occasionally.

In her last three years, against Texas, UConn, Stanford, LSU, Connecticut, and against highly seeded teams in the NCAA tournament, the Lady Vols went 2-18. No reason at all to praise a 10% win rate against elite teams.
Old news. Bones 🦴

…moving on

A couple takeaways

I find it interesting she never mentioned Grace Slaughter. One would think she will be their best returning player, stayed committed to the program and was a 15pt and 46% performer from three.

At the end when discussing style of play it sounds oddly…familiar. Interpret that how you wish.

She is definitely laying the groundwork for a low bar here. I do think she’ll get them playing well by year three or so but it’s going to be a bumpy start.

Stanky is a dry chod . We need someone better for his job. He seemed like he just hated being there for these introductions.

I certainly wish Kellie success. She was a tough competitor on the court and did well at Tennessee but "doing well" isn't good enough.

It will be interesting to see any coaching changes or changes to style of play (defense or offense) we see from her team, especially after a season off as a commentator. If she's as cerebral as I believe she is, the hours of games watched and the combing over of stat game by game may have lit a different light bulb in her head. I'll be cheering her on almost 100% of the time, minus games versus Tennessee or against UNLV, when I'll be hoping for an L in her column. :)

Go Lady Vols!

The difference is that Missouri is not expecting her to sign multiple five star prospects every year. Tennessee did. You don’t have to have the ability to throw a six figure offer or match a six figure offer to keep a committed recruit at Missouri. She did at Tennessee. It’s not the whole reason she didn’t win big here, but it’s certainly part of the story.

Missouri’s expectations are to go to the NCAA tournament more often than not. If she advances to the round of 32 or even the sweet 16 a couple of times, she will be able to coach there until she is ready to retire.

Interested to see if Jon is a part of her staff, he had told people in basketball circles that he didn’t have a lot of interest in getting back in, even if she did. But, he had a lot of of the recruiting relationships with the AAU programs and high school coaches in the state of Missouri when they were there the first time, so I think he would definitely be valuable more so in that job than perhaps any other they would have taken other than Auburn.
Didn't she go one year with NO high school recruits? Even if she did get a 5 star, they seem to play like a 1 star in her so called system. SO glad she is gone! Notice the program did a MAJOR jump with her GONE!

I wish Kellie the best but I still remember her stating that she hates change. Again, I wish her the best except when Mizzou plays the LVs. If Kellie takes Mizzou to the NCAAT, I believe, she will be only coach to take 5 different programs to the Big Dance.

We're back in the national mix as a program. We've got good leadership with Danny and CKC. Maybe we fans have got enough security now that we can begin to mend fences, reconcile our feelings of past frustration or disappointment, and get back to being a large LVFL family again.

Or maybe I'm just feeling sappy tonight.

Sounded like she knew they are going to get their butts kicked this year. I could hear optimism but shrouded in dread. May just be me, but that’s what I heard.

Get the leadership right, the rest takes care of itself.

And that's one reason she's not at UT. I think DW lost confidence in her partly because of her uninspiring speech. The Lady Vol coach needs to speak of high expectations and excellence unapologetically. Last year KC never acted like she was in a rebuild project.
