Opinion: I'd like to see Golesh get the Penn State job

They will hire a bigger name
Yep, hiring a coach with a couple years at HC at USF a mid major would have that fanbase go bananas. I like Golesh but there's not enough out there on him running a P4 program as the CEO of one of the biggest programs in the nation. It could work but if it went worse than Franklin who had a pretty good win/loss record just bad vs top 10 teams until the 3 game skid Oregon OT/ UCLA disaster/NW 1 point game. If they get a unheralded G5 coach and the bar is pretty high love or hate Franklin he did win and was close to a Natty. If Golesh fails out the gate more than him will be fired , there will be no, we need to give him 3+ years. I think this could be a career ender for Golesh as a HC. Just don't really think he's on their radar to be honest.

In my opinion, that would be an interesting pairing because Penn State needs to come into the 21st Century offensively and Golesh would also bring the old school disciplined approach they say they value up there. But more importantly, I don't want him landing a job in the SEC. Golesh taking the Florida job is the ultimate nightmare scenario for us
19-13 as a HC, he would be perfect for them

IDK, getting harder to do that this day and age. I thought the same about Florida and Bama’s last coaching search. I certainly think they’re going to try, though.
Penn State was in the playoffs a year ago and are in a way better situation than UF. It's widely considered the top job available. UF hasn't been considered the top job available since Urban left. So it's not really similar to UF at all.

Bama hired the biggest name that wasn't Sarkisian, Day, Dabo, or Smart. And he's indeed a very good coach. The problem is that he has to follow in the foot steps of the GOAT, so there isn't a realistic expectation for him. If he doesn't win a Natty in the next 2-3 years, he will be a failure in the eyes of Bama fans.

Golesh will be really far down the list for PSU, imo. I doubt he even gets a call.

But Golesh will likely be among the top options for Michigan State, OK State, UCLA, VT, Arky, and any other P4 school that gets their HC poached.

I believe Matt Rhule (Nebraska) has this job sewed up. His connections to PSU, plus his track record, give him a rocket boost upwards.
I could see Nebraska being very interested in Golesh. Or Wisconsin if Fickell gets canned.

IMO, Golesch is in a great spot at USF. He’ll get enough players to stay around the Top 25 and keep his name hot. If it were me, I’d ride that until I got the right opportunity.

Penn State just fired a coach that won something like 34 games in the past 3 seasons…only Day and Smart win more. Plus, it is in the frozen tundra of nowhere. It would be a no for me. He might get Florida, which is infinitely more attractive to me.
UF has not been the more attractive job since Urban left. They've had 3 openings since hiring Muschamp after Urban left. They were unable to get a top candidate any of those times. Even in 2017 when they hired Mullen, they missed on Chip Kelly and never had a chance at Scott Frost, who were both widely considered the top 2 coaches available. Even Jimbo Fisher was considered a better hire at the time than Mullen.

UF is a mess of a program right now. Depending on what some other teams do at HC (namely Michigan, LSU, and FSU) Florida might not even be a top 5 job this cycle.

He has a good bit of experience coaching/playing in the Big 10 and Big 12. So one of those schools or OK State (where he was a GA) make a lot of sense.

Facilities, support and recruiting base say otherwise.

A good coach can have them turned around very quickly.

Recruiting base is an outdated viewpoint from 15-20 years ago. Location is not the recruiting advantage it used to be. Every big school is pulling top kids from Florida nowadays. And kids are traveling all over the country to play more now than ever before. Not to mention, UF has 2 other top in state schools to fend off. Miami is back to being a powerhouse and FSU spends more than UF.

UF also hasn't been getting the sort of financial support that other top schools are getting. Their issues with their NIL program are well known.

Again, if all this were true, UF wouldn't be have been settling for mid tier coaches for the last 10 years.

No. I would like to see Clark Lea get the PSU job and Vandy get Mike Shula. 😂😂😂

Cignetti just signed a new contract at IU this week. He's staying put. IU was smart and locked him down
I don't see Swinney being a choice by any P4 school that wants to be competitive. To quote a post from another forum "Dabo is a good Blockbuster store owner in the age of Netflix".

Fickell was hired at Whiskey to "modernize" their offense.

The problem being that he found out really quick that those folks up there liked their offense the way it was

Fan support (and wins) are rare.

The Badgers will hire someone who is going to line up in the I formation and run the ball 90% of the time. That is not Golesh

I don’t see why they’d fire Franklin unless they plan on bringing in a proven power conference HC, perhaps even an SEC guy like Deboer or Kelly

I wonder if Matt Campbell finally skips town and then Golesh goes to Iowa State. I could see that. Or Oklahoma State.

I REALLY don't think LSU would put up much of a fight if Kelly wants to leave

The folks at Bama still seem unsure of DeBoer
They wanted him gone by Labor Day this season. Now, they are getting back to thinking they are going to dominate everybody again.

If you listen to him talk, he's very satisfied at South Florida. His family loves the weather in Florida, and the university supports them in every way.
