UAB fires Trent Dilfer

I don't remember Fisher being a UAB HC candidate. Must have been pre-FSU promotion. Worked out better for him anyway.
If I recall correctly it was a done deal. Jimbo had been on Sabans LSU staff. The BOT wanted to keep him available to be the OC in Tuscaloosa so they vetoed his agreed on contract.. He turned Saban down and went to Tallahassee instead.

It was. He was OC at LSU in 2006 and was being considered for UAB HC.
Ah yes. He stayed on at LSU for Miles, then turned down Saban at Bama after the UAB/Bear Jr rejection to go be OC at FSU. Good move for him, but there were serious academic and discpline issues with the players. The A&M offer probably kept him from getting tossed at FSU. Taggart walked into a mess down there. Never realized Jimbo left such an internal mess there like he did. Knew there was some internal grumblings, but read somewhere that the player academic issues were so bad they almost got post season banned by NCAA. Taggart had to focus more energy on correcting that than he was able to invest in actual coaching. He was dooomed from the start.

Not even close. Bill Clark was older but pretty fit.

Early line out is if they could get Clark to return and rebuild UAB again. He's #1 on the short wishlist.

Ex UAB/Falcon great Roddy White also has spoke up wanting the job. With no coaching experience ala Sanders, Vick & Jackson.

Clark originally retired from UAB due to back surgery needs. He's been resting for 3ish years now. If he's fit enough these days and wants to come back he just has to call, or answer his phone becasue UAB won't conduct a search unless he says no.
Bill Clark isn’t coming back as long as Mark Ingram is there

That is correct. They undermined him thinking he'd gladly rejoin Saban. Saban offered him immediately after his UAB contract was rejected.

I wouldn't think so. He's already dealt with all that once or twice. But, if he's healthy now and wants to return, he'd be a great hire for somebody imo. Never had a reason to follow UAB, but he was a heck of a coach. He's been public about a return and has been a consultant to some teams, and is just looking for the right fit. According to him, he's looking for a UAB level or better type situation where's he's comfortable with the admin and the direction of doing it hte right way.

Clark had UAB very competitive even after the Bama machine politically killed the program and he hung out there and brought it back from death, he still competed and won.

Oh yeah I forgot he did that just 3 years after the program was literally put down. So to go 6-6 out of the gate after all that is pretty impressive in and of itself.

They didn’t. We just made it look kinda good.

UAB has had some success in the past, so they’d like to go bowling at least.

Their offense is top 40 overall. They are 24th in success rate. They have a good offense.

They are bottom 5 in all of FBS in defense. That's the issue.
