College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

I think you’re letting your hate of UK cloud your opinion…they’re ranked ahead of us in every human poll I’ve seen and every analytics ranking that I’ve seen.
Your argument is based on preseason polls? I keep up with Kentucky's roster very closely. I saw all the transfer guys they went after and missed on and I saw the guys they ended up with. It's 100% media hype. They aren't that talented. Oweh is a stud, but he's all they have!

That's just not true. Jaland Lowe averaged 16.6 pts and 5.5 assts in the ACC. He could have gone anywhere he wanted. Jayden Quaintance, if healthy, can be elite. Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno were top-25 players in the 2025 class. Dioubate, Williams, and Aberdeen will be contributors as role players and were all top-100 transfers.

Well, I guess we are going to see how that roster stacks up against the rest of the league.

Kentucky fans weren't excited about Lowe until they landed him. He shot 37% from the field last year and 27% from 3. Here are some of the things Pittsburgh fans were saying about Lowe:
“Lowe’s a ball hog,” “Lowe’s out of control and is a turnover machine”, “Lowe regressed from his freshman season,” “Pitt is better off without him,” “the Pitt staff doesn’t want him back."

They are paying Quaintance a lot of money and no one really knows when or if he'll be back from ACL surgery this year. Kam Williams is solid. Good get. But I'm comparing Kentucky's roster to ours. It's not close. Kentucky fans wanted nearly every guy we ended up with. They had to settle for guys down the list because most of the guys they initially targeted went elsewhere. They still got some good players, but every year the media hypes up Kentucky because it's one of the biggest most loyal fan bases in the country and they want them to continue buying merch, tickets, watching games, ect. There's a lot of money riding on Kentucky fans continuing to be engaged with the program.

Something else I'll point out is that the fan base is restless and not happy with how recruiting has gone. No commitments so far this year and most of their top targets are favoring other schools.

I guess you missed the analytics part of my post

I can find negative quotes from Tennessee fans about Zakai Zeigler and Dalton Knecht, too. Fans are fanatical. A couple of those about Lowe sound like sour grapes after he left, which isn't surprising to anyone.

Quaintance I specifically stated was dependent on health. If he's healthy, he's likely one of the 10 best players in the conference and a lottery pick.

I live in Kentucky and have for almost 16 years. I can't say I remember a single fan I know lamenting not getting a commitment from Carey, Burg, Massamba, Evans, Brown, Henderson, Abrams. Most UK fans could MAYBE name one of those players. Sure, they wanted Ament and Gillespie...everyone did, but that's a far cry from them "wanting nearly every guy we ended up with".

Nearly every piece of evidence disagrees with the idea that their roster "isn't even close" to ours, and in fact, the overwhelming agreement of both human polls and computer models suggest they should be better. Now, that may not play out to be true...I think we all agree that we hope it isn't. I also think we all agree that our team is underrated. So it certainly could be that UK is overrated, as well. Time will tell. I do agree that in terms of human opinion, right or wrong, UK is annually the product of hype and expectation. Sometimes they realize the potential of that hype, other times they miss the mark.

They're about to land the number 1 player in the country. They'll be really happy with recruiting here soon lol. Especially since they are stealing him from his hometown of Louisville. They will be on cloud 9.

They absolutely are not. Just another example of sports media gassing up the Kentucky fan base. Maybe I'm completely wrong and he does end up there, but I think he's going to Kansas with Kinney. Kentucky went after Kinney too and missed on him.

I think he goes to Oregon

Kentucky starting point guard Jaland Lowe popped his shoulder out in Kentucky's Blue and White game. MRI looked good though so not sure how serious. They don't have a good backup point guard. It's one of many reasons I'm not buying they have a 22 million dollar roster. Sounds like sports media gassing up Kentucky fans again. I wonder how much they have wrapped up in just Oweh.

Very curious to see how we do against them defensively in the exhibition. Cam Boozer had 33 pts on 12-19 FG. UCF is 64th overall in KenPom so considered a decent opponent.

We going to do what we did the last time we played 'em, D-Up and physically punish 'em. Nah, probably not quite as physical, since it is an exhibition. But, I will guarantee Cam is not scoring 33

I want to see how our freshman class stacks up against their freshman class. Can our guys hold their own. That's the most interesting aspect of this game for me.
It's really just Ament against their class. Henderson may get 10 minutes, but I doubt Evans and Brown get much more than 10 minutes combined. Now, if you are counting Burg, maybe 15 minutes

If you’re talking about just Ament looking like he belongs then sure, if you’re talking Evans, Henderson, Massamba & Brown I’m not really sure that’s fair.
