The cautionary takeaway is not that someone IS a perv or pedo... but that they BECAME a perv or pedo--because that means any of us could, too.
I doubt anyone came out of the womb genetically predisposed to seek sexual desires that society or scripture prohibit. But there's always a downward progression--sporadically but willingly initiated--that leads people to crash on the rocks.
When "making love to one's life partner" (giving and sharing sex) devolves into just getting sex (satisfying self) it's easy not to notice that we've left one path and are now on another.
Our brain is our largest sex organ, and it seems anytime we get devoted to self fulfillment (not just sexual or sensory fulfillment) we inevitably end up chasing greater frequency, and then greater novelty. Our brains are just wired so that identical experiences cease to satisfy over time. And so we begin to experiment, seeking new variations as our brain chemistry demands the same level of pleasure as previously achieved.
[insert video of George Costanza eating a deli sandwich while having sex -- or... just quote Solomon in Ecclesiates ch. 2]
It's sad that someone from our VFL tribe has fallen (however willingly, intermittently along the way). But let's not dismiss him as someone "different from" or "weaker" than us. He may just be our future self if we don't take stock of what we're doing and thinking today. For sure, there's nothing in popular culture that's gonna set healthy boundaries for us!
Note: Yesterday (Oct.15) the CEO of ChatGTP, Sam Altman, announced that that they will soon open their AI "services" to erotica for verified adults. Anything sexual that you can imagine... and digitally recorded forever that you requested it?
I'm sure no one's ever gonna take advantage of that information down the road!
Anyway, that's why I'm encouraging us all to be real about Jay Graham, and be real about our future selves and who we could become, further down a bad path.
