Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

I think I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum from many on here. I think our pass rushers are good enough to not need to blitz much. Give the backend more bodies to make Simpson pause a beat and let the edges rushers pressure the qb.
I agree. But play man and have safety help. We are not good in zone. So stop forcing it. But I agree, let the DL eat like they do. Also, coach some players up and stop playing the sticks and dropping ten yards past once the ball is snapped. Martinez is on the damn field, yell at them. I think the DL has a field day Saturday but we all know the refs will let Bama WWE our players

With age, the only thing that I feel certain about is a lack of certainty on anything. A bit boring in a medium designed for strong opinions. I'm basically the veggie tray at a pot luck.
I've become.. celery : /
It’s ok to flare up from time to time…like sriracha in the ranch dip. šŸ˜Ž

Has anyone asked about Gibson? I would imagine with a chest injury that he could be back by the end of the season.

VQ said they will spend on the secondary this portal season. Seems like we flip some position groups every couple of years. It’s the secondaries turn.

We haven’t been very good in man or zone, so agree with mixing it up. Really looking forward to seeing the DL now that we’re fully healthy and everyone has a couple games under the belt.

Need a wrecking ball at LB

I honestly don’t think we get in the cfp at 10-2, unless a lot of dominos fall. With us struggling to beat avg arky and msu teams, and likely no real statement win (assuming we lose to bama), I think the committee will hold it against us
Sankey would burn cfb as we know it to the ground. 10-2 gets in
Normally I would say 10-2 and we're in. However this year in college football it's weird man... I can realistically see 7 or more teams from the SEC/Big10 all with 10-2 records at the end of the year. We all know the constant disrespect we receive from the media/talking heads. Lets say there are 4 spots left in the playoff and 7 teams all sitting at 10-2. I honestly believe they find a way to justify keeping us out. I wouldn't agree with it but would bet my bottom dollar it happens.

That is fine, just play man with two over the top and never drop back in full zone coverage.

Brooks Austin talks about ā€œblock avoidanceā€ in his film review ahead of this weekend’s game. UT defenders seem to try to get around blocks instead of striking, engaging, and trying to leave an arm free to make the tackle. The earlier commenter is right that the defender has to force the play back inside, but it does seem like engaging the blocker could slow the play and leave 15 a chance to make a play while also steering the play back inside.
Sometimes it's infuriating when a defender literally only engages his blocker like it's not his job to tackle the runner. But great defenders do it all, not either or. You either go around and make a play in the runner, or you engage the defender and make a play on the runner. A great defender never JUST sets the edge.

Disagree. Man was fine against UGA and Stockton got lucky. He hit throws he hasn’t since. We win by two TDs if he plays normal. Played more man in the second half against Arkansas and it worked for almost all the second half until we went prevent when we got a lead.
